First time buying a new car: Affordable 5 Passenger with Lane Centering

Hello RFD,

Long time lurker here. I'm currently in the market for a new car, since used car prices are close to new car prices and I don't mind waiting several months.

I test drove the CX5 Turbo yesterday and I really liked it, but it looked like the lane centering wasn't as advanced as a Kia Optima rental I had back in 2019. This feature is really important for me, and it is making me consider other cars at this point.

I'm currently looking at the RAV4, CR-V, and Santa Fe. Can someone please let me know how I can get a good deal for a new car. I've heard about waiting until the end of the month and to use financing to get better deals. I can pay in cash and I would like to find something under $45K with everything included. This would be my first time buying a new car. Thanks.

I recommend a GT3RS. There is good frunk space for toothbrushes and Kleenex.

Lane keep assist is a horrible feature IMO.

I disable it right after I start my Wife's Grand Cherokee. Along with the auto start/stop. Both "features" drive me nuts.

Why not just buy the Hyundai if you think their system is great?

Try having lane centering on when you are on winding roads. Your passengers will love you.

This feature is awful unless you're on perfectly straight roads.

The feature sucks. I have it on my RDX and the only time i have used it was when I was extremely tired at the end of a drive a few times

I have it on Tesla and even though it works great on a twisty highway, should a wide truck approach me from left behind, my car could still be too close to the left edge of lane which gets pretty scary and I take over regardless.

I say this feature is only good for quiet highways.

I had it on my previous car. Everytime the road split (e.g. offramp) it would fight me when I tried to take the offramp. I made sure my next car did not have this feature.

The Kia Optima made it so seamless and I just had to keep my hand on the wheel and it was mostly driving itself on the highway. It handled twisting roads well. The Mazda model waited until it got too close to either one of the lanes before correcting. The Kia/Hyundai system was a level above in comparison.

* Lane Centering for the thread title, not Cantering. Looks like I can't edit it now.

Lol you shouldn’t be on the road if this is a necessity.

You're suppose to use these features to assist you not drive for you.

Yes it's just for assisting and it would be useful on long roadtrips. I just got to experience the Kia system and it would be great to find something similar to it.
