Specs from GSM Arena

Here is an example of a mobile plan on Fizz: $28/month
Unlimited minutes and texts + 1 GB of data + voicemail (Québec coverage). There are cheaper plans.

With Fizz, unused data “rolls over” the next two billing cycles and there's "gifting" between Fizz's subscribers which permits you to select a monthly plan with less data than what you might subscribe for on another carrier.

LG Velvet 5G was released in May 2020.
Android 10, upgradable to Android 11
Storage: 128GB
RAM: 6GB
Octa-core + Adreno 620 + Qualcomm SM7250 Snapdragon 765G 5G (7 nm)
Display: 6.8 inches P-OLED 395 ppi
Resolution 1080 X 2460
Glass front, glass back, aluminum frame
Hybrid Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by)
MicroSDXC card slot
Triple main camera 48/8/5 MP
Selfie camera 16 MP
4k video @ 30fps
3.5 mm jack
USB Type-C, USB On-The-Go
Fingerprint
4300 mAh battery
Fast charging 25W
Fast wireless charging 9W
1-year warranty

If you switch before the 24 months are over, you have to refund the discount you got at a prorated rate.

Please note that Fizz does not offer 5G at the moment. Fizz is Vidéotron’s flanker brand and use their LTE network.

TBS and Walmart were paying people to take the LG velvet during the Canada Day deals last week.

Was checking Kijiji for fun on this phone and many offers for new or almost new averaging around $350 due to fact that LG is out of phone business now . Prices have tanked .
Better value from Fizz would be the Galaxy S20 FE at $550 - 75 I guess .
Too bad the pixel 4a at $260 is now gone .

Costco had 350$+ gift cards on the S20 FE 5G. I get it, it was last week.. much superior phone without LG abandon problems. Some of your Fizz threads are on point but when Costco mobility gets generous on their cash cards.. that's the time to jump ship from Fido to Virgin and back to Fido unless deals apply to hardware upgrades too.

LG have committed to ongoing updates for the Velvet. I purchased one off Amazon and it's certainly a nice phone with a great screen. Turned out it was a TMobile specific version though with different hardware so updates were not guaranteed.

They said the same thing in 2018 about their update program and literally did nothing .

At Richmond Costco the giftcard was only 300$, so I got it at 15$/month/2y from Superstore for 350K PC points and 100$ bill credit on the 3rd bill. :)

I like the Velvet, but it is a pretty boring phone. Not impressed with the curved screen, see no point of it, and it makes it harder to protect the phone. It is a bit too long for my liking, but that seems to be the trend. I think if you wait long enough, it is a good $200 phone.

I really don’t get the craze behind “updates”

Like what happens if your phone doesn’t get the latest OS firmware that some other flagships will get.
The way people put, is like they can’t live if their phone isn’t updated the second it becomes available.
I haven’t updated my iPhone XR for like a year already because I don’t want new bloatware and gimmicky features. Doesn’t mean my phone suddenly becomes unusable and can get hacked

Try connecting your iPhone to a wifi network named %secretclub%power. You will permanently lose access to wifi functionality on your iPhone. Unless you upgrade your OS. Upgrades are pretty important...

Who in their right mind would even consider for a second doing that?

I got one on sale and honestly, it is a really good phone for the price. I have gotten a few updates. Zero complaints about it.

One of the interesting things about the LG Velvet is that it has an AES active digitizer, so you can use it with other active AES pens. Makes it a really cheap alternative to a Note if all you wanted was a phone with active stylus support. None of the North American marketing or specs sheet mention this for some reason. Downside is that you have to carry the stylus separately with you as there is nobslot on the phone to store it.

Any advantage using active stylus vs your finger ?
