Switching from IVC 100/30 at 35$+tx to Fizz 120/20 for 50$+tx tonight.
Will be putting the Hitron in bridge mode since I have my own router and mesh AP's.

After 10 months, IVC started to throttle my youtube app only (savage thottle to 2.5mbps) and they were blaming my ''Internet usage'' when I talked to a tech level 2. (see my post here that explains quickly my problem qc-only-ivc-telecom-100mbps-34-95-12-mo ... #p34843243)

Everything was going great with IVC for 10 months until the last 3-4 days where the throttle started and only using youtube app's on streaming keys (google chromecast with google tv over WIFI 5ghz and Nvidia shield 2019 that is hard wired...)
Connecting my Nvidia shield directly in IVC's modem didnt change anything during thottling hours... was still getting 2.5mbps in connecton speed in stats for nerds in youtube.

I really dont remember. I believe I bought it outright many years ago. I've been with them for a while and negotiated a few times over the years. I am sure the modem could be negotiated also. In any case I am happy to support local folks and employment.

Well I had install scheduled today for 12-5pm, and the tech showed up at around 12:30.

Brought the modem in, gave me a 15' piece of spare coax (which I asked for - for my final install), he checked the signal strength on the cable I asked him to connect it on, and he started the activation of the modem, by scanning the bar code. That was it, and he left. No handholding (and I am fine with that).

I Plugged everything up, turned on the modem, it started to go through sync process, and it did that for about 10 minutes. But just as I got an email from fizz, saying "welcome", the sync completed and connected. Guess it took some time to actually activate from when the tech sent the request. Once it synced, I connected laptop to modem for testing. Connected to modem IP (192.168.0.1) and it asked me to setup wifi. I did it, it rebooted, and then I reconnected, this time at lgot a ogin prompt, use user: "cusadmin" and the wifi password you set up earlier. Then you can browse all the available options. noticed it was at firmware 2.x BUT.... within about 2 minutes, the modem/router rebooted itself... Figured GREAT!!!! gave it a few minutes, and then when I connected again to 192.168.0.1, it asked me again to set up the wifi.. Oh well, I did it all again all over. But this time after going through the steps and connecting again after the setup, I noticed the firmware is now up to version 7.x. Guess it was pushed the new firmware so everything was reset in consequence.

Got that out of the way, so ran some tests... Speeds look pretty good for the 120M plan. Pings are great @ 4ms. Got anywhere from 4ms to 9ms, depending on the server it connects to, which is normal. I got nearly 30M more download speed (since I was on 100/30 profile before), but I will miss the extra 10M upload I had previously.



For now I am running both cable modems in parallel (other service expires on the 23rd). Surprised they work together.
This weekend I will go ahead and disable the gateway function of the modem (ie: put it in bridge mode) and swap the modems out properly, and use my own OPNSense router/firewall and access points which are already set up.

So far, so good. NO complaints.

Fizz tech came by 1 hour ago. He checked my coax cable signal and everything was good and left.
I hooked everything up and I always get the up and down lights blinking yellow.
I hooked my laptop in lan1 of the fizz modem (nothing else) and did the initial setup and all is good.
Then I see my wan IP address and even see some wan receiving and sending MBytes.
I cannot ping websites or browse them.
I see that I am at firmware V 2A. Read that someone was at 2 then updated to 7...
I reset the modem with clip/ unplugged and plugged back in the coax, redid the wifi setup and doesn't change a thing...
Now waiting in queue for chat support...

Instead of doing a factory reset using a paper clip, try just unplugging - wait 10 seconds - plug back the modem. A factory reset will bring the modem back to firmware 2.x When you unplug/plug it does a firmware check and updates to 7.1.1.2.7b8

Did that as well but hasn't changed anything...

Ohh stuff is changing as we speak. Red ring on bottom. Haven't seen that yet...

Modem is definately doing something...
Setup was different as it asked me to choose my ssid name ( before it was pre filled) and now it's rebooting by itself again)
Hope I am getting V7!!!!

The modem has been connected for like 40 min before doing that procedure....

All is working now... finally.
Update took a good 40 minutes before being applied.....
I put it in bridge mode and my network is back working.
Did a stat for nerds test on youtube app and no throttling!!

Ya, it took about 20 or 25 minutes for me also for it to take the upgrade. And BTW, the firmware version initially is 2.x.. But 2A is the H/W revision

When mine started rebooted after the first setup, I kind of remembered people mentioning firmware updates ,so I left it alone, made lunch, and then came back for the second round. So it could have easily been about 30 minutes.

Since these modems are all getting provisioned on the Videotron network, it would have been nice for them to pre-update al the firmware of modems they still have in stock, to v7.x. Or ask Hitron to pre-load their specific firmware on them at factory.. It's not like they are "generic" modems, they are customized with fizz logo, for fizz

EDIT: Oh, and since your service is now active, you can log into your account and you can apply a "bonus" and you will see a "$1/month" rebate option due to being level 1 for now. Not much, but $1/m is a $1/m why not. When you log into your account, on the left you have the blue square with the points and 3 circles on the bottom saysing "Upgrades, Perks, Badges". Click on the circle on top of Upgrades, which will bring you to a screen showing you your upgrades... And 1 slot (Level 1) will be empty and unlocked. If you click on it, I think it brings you up available upgrades, and 1 of them is a $1 monthly rebate. You click on it, it will add it, but will activate it upon next payment cycle.

Now I have a few of my buddies who were with Altima also, and wanted to wait to see me switch over and ensure a smooth switch, before they switch. Guess with the increased referral, I will send them my referral code and get them to switch.

Is it possible to get back in the Fizz modem once it's in bridge?
I type in 192.168.0.1 from my home infrastructure wich is a 192.168.1.1 network and get I to the fizz logon page but my password is not working anymore (tried the wifi password that fizz asked as well as the one from the sticker on the back of the modem...)

I think its normal and only way to get back in is to reset with pin....

^ I don't use bridge mode but someone else further up the thread (or it's something I read somewhere) has said the same thing that once you are in bridge mode you can't access the modem anymore.

Thankfully, most of the settings you might ever want to modify are in your own router.

I have ping between 5 and 9ms. Better than IVC of course.

Yeah I had the same reflection....

When I switched mine to Bridge mode, I could no longer access the modem. I tried a few times, and as far as I know, even on fizz faq, I am pretty sure it says you need to reset modem to be able to access it again.

I'll try again tomorrow, since for now, I can't switch whole network over (kids will hang me). I am running both networks in parallel with 2 different routers My home infrastructure is a little more complex that the average user, so I will need to be careful and have the time to do it right. With IPTV, VoIP, Work From Home, kids gaming, etc... And with my OPNsense firewall, 3 access point, VPN server and client connections, a few NAS servers, I need to make sure it is smooth and at the right time.

Which is why I did the switch with 10 days remaining on my existing connection. The overlap was needed to ensure the transition goes smooth and have a fallback.

I think the firmware update was done by Intel or Hitron and pushed by Fizz in April. The modems were probably bought in batch long before that. And on Fizz size, why put resources on something that will update itself automatically?

I feel like the boy who cried wolf. I really thought yesterday would have been the last day to get the 120/20 Mbps @ $50 per month deal since the graphics on the Web site have been changed. The "Double Double your Speed Speed" graphics are gone. It has been replaced by "60 Mbps for $50 doesn't go unnoticed". But there it is, the 120/20 Mbps @ $50 per month deal still seems available this morning. So, who know? Last weekend?

Installation could be in August, September or even October. This offer could be pulled at any moment.

They're just trying to create a feeling of rush and scarcity, they could run this promotion for a year but always say it ends in two weeks... People will feel like they need to act NOW.

The 15/10 Mbps plan for $38 is no longer available and they raised the 10/1.5 Mbps from $30 to $39 for a 30% increase! (New subscribers only.)

Prices are indeed going up because of the recent CRTC decision in favor of the big Telcos about the wholesale rates charged to Third Party Internet Access providers.

And with the 30/10 Mbps @ $45 per month, it's almost like they only want to sell the 120/20 Mbps deal @ $50 per month.

Who will subscribe to 30/10 Mbps for $45 per month when you can have 120/20 Mbps for $50 per month?
