Fizz is all pre-paid so there's no credit check. You may cancel any time.
For payment, you need a credit card, a pre-paid card or a Visa/Mastercard Debit card.
You can also use someone else's card. The name on the card can be different than the one on the account. Fizz doesn't care who pays the bill as long as it gets paid. Like a parent can pay for their children's plan.

You can get a Visa Debit either at CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank or TD. It's free when you have an account. BMO offer Mastercard Debit. By Federal regulation, banks must offer a basic bank account for less than $4 in monthly fees. Maybe take this opportunity to open a new account with a Visa/Mastercard Debit? $4 per month is cheaper than most fees to buy a pre-paid credit card.

Customer support is digital only; you have to be at ease with the new ways of communicating like chat, Messenger, community forums, etc. With those means of communications, sometimes it takes a little longer to get understood and get satisfaction. To give better prices, Fizz employ customer support from overseas with employees for whom English or French is sometimes a second or third language with a basic understanding of what the product is. I don't mean this in a condescending way, just know what type of customer you are.

Once you are a Fizz subscriber, you get a referral code that you can share with friends and family to use when they join Fizz. When that person makes her/his second monthly payment, you will both get a $25 credit. That's a $25 credit EACH!

If you don't have someone's referral code, GET ONE BEFORE ORDERING to get the $25 credit.

DO NOT POST OR ASK FOR A REFERRAL CODE IN THIS THREAD.

THAT'S AGAINST RFD RULES.

Here is a link to a little guide I edited to register with Fizz Home Internet without missing the referral code box. It's similar if you want to join Fizz mobile service. Please note that it does not contain any referral code.

Will the price increase?
The price is ongoing. So far, over 4 years, the price increases have been for new customers only. Fizz has had a hard time raising it's prices and keep them there. There actually has been some price hikes followed by price cuts. They can't raise their prices to the sky or else people will jump ship. Fizz is meant to compete with the 3rd party resellers.

Fizz Customer Support
Support is through the Web site only via chat, Messenger, email or contact forms. There are also two Community Forums: one in English and one in French. A contact form automatically opens a ticket. Give as much details as possible.

The Home Internet service is available in Vidéotron’s service area (Québec province and in some parts of Ontario like Clarence/Rockland, Alfred, Limoges, Hammond, etc.)

It’s actually Vidéotron’s Home Internet with a discreet Fizz logo engraved on the modem. You even get a Vidéotron IP address. It’s a rock-solid connection. The speed is constantly more than promised. There is no throttling at night when everybody streams Netflix all at once.

Monthly prices and Download/Upload speeds (Mbps)
15/10 Mbps ---> $39
30/10 Mbps ---> $40
60/10 Mbps ---> $50
120/20 Mbps ---> $52
200/30 Mbps ---> $65 ---> $55

The Bandwidth is UNLIMITED.

A Wi-Fi modem/router rental is included at no extra cost. It's a Hitron CODA-4680.

Auto-installation is FREE: a technician will bring your modem and verify that your cable connection works properly. All the instructions needed come with the modem and are clearly spelled out. VIP-installation is $30 and unnecessary: complete installation and configuration by a technician.

FAQ

Does Fizz throttle uploads?
There is no download throttling. The traffic management for Uploads is done by Vidéotron at the Network level. It’s the same for any 3rd party reseller that operates on the Vidéotron Network. It only applies to upload speeds of 20 Mbps and more to deal with abusive customers. Fizz’s Internet traffic management policy Vidéotron's Internet Traffic Management Policy Vidéotron (Fizz) is known for managing their network well by splitting their nodes long before there are too many customers that could cause congestion.

Can I use my own modem and router?
No, you can not use your own modem, only the one supplied for Free by Fizz but you can use your own router. Just put the Fizz modem in bridge mode.

Does the Fizz modem contain an Intel Puma chip?
Yes, the modem supplied by Fizz (Hitron CODA-4680) like millions of modems used in the United Kingdom and North America contains a Puma chip from Intel which has been reported as suffering from latency peaks. If your household consists of many people that use heavy bandwidth applications all at once should look at another Internet service provider. But it seems most of them in Québec use modems with a Puma 5/6/7 chip. If you are a serious online gamer, using an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for your gaming rig will diminish latency peaks.

Should I cancel my current provider first?
No, get Fizz, then when everything is set up and running to your liking, cancel your old provider. That is also true even if you currently have a cable provider. The two services can run for a while on the same cable.

Fizz mobile service

It’s on a quick LTE network; the same as Vidéotron's.

You can use your current phone or buy one from Fizz.

Every month, unused data rolls over for the next 2 billing cycles. You can also "gift" unused data to other Fizz members or receive gifts from them.

If during a month you are short on data, you can ask for some on a Reddit data exchange here where people who have too much offer it. There's also a Facebook page that does the same function.

A SIM card will cost you $15 and will be delivered by courier. Or, You can buy a Fizz SIM card at any Couche Tard. Jean Coutu sells those also. Call before going to make sure they have some.

You can also buy a Fizz SIM card for $5 in the Fizz vending machines in the Montreal metro instead of $15 on the Web site.

The pricing

You start with the mandatory minimum of $12 for the Québec coverage.

Then you ADD what you want (optional):
$3 Unlimited text messaging (incoming are always free);
$7 Unlimited minutes;
$2 Voice mail (visual voicemail included);
$3 Canada coverage;
$7 Canada + USA coverage.

Select ONE amount of data (optional):

1 GB $6
2 GB $7
3 GB $8
5 GB $10
6 GB $12
8 GB $13
10 GB $18
12 GB $21
15 GB $28
20 GB $33
30 GB $38

Free stuff everyone gets: call display, call waiting, conference calling and call forwarding.

Is Fizz mobile right for me?

I'm a happy Fizz customer since early October 2018. It's a good product at a discounted price. To be happy with Fizz, you have to know which kind of customer you are before making the move. Fizz is not just Vidéotron cellular with a different sticker on it. You will benefit from being on a tested, proven reliable cellular network (Vidéotron's) but Fizz is a separate company with its own Customer Service, subscription, billing, etc.

Here is the profile of someone for whom Fizz might not be a good idea:
- If you are used to just call someone in Montreal whenever there's the slightest problem and to have it fixed immediately;
- If you expect every little new marginal feature to work immediately, flawlessly and all the time;
- If you can't suffer any down time at all for any reason whatsoever because your wife is due any day now or you are a brain surgeon on call 24/7, maybe Fizz is not the right fit for you. :)

If you plan to hook-up Grandma on Fizz and leave her on her own to subscribe, order a SIM card, activate it, select a plan and deal with any potential problem, maybe that's not a good idea. Sorry Grandma - I know you could. :)

To offer lower prices, Fizz cuts costs by outsourcing its customer service overseas with employees for whom English or French is sometimes a second or third language with a basic understanding of what the product is. So if you encounter a difficulty along the way and need help from customer support, a little patience is going to be needed as it might take more time to get understood and get satisfaction than when you just make a phone call to a "local" Customer Support Representative from the legacy carriers that charge you big $$$.

Otherwise, it's a smooth ride towards a good product with big savings.

Every big company has thousands of dissatisfied customers that will complain in any given year. Just look at Bell or Rogers. But they also have hundreds of thousands of customers who are satisfied. Yet you don't hear from those customers. People for whom things go wrong tend to be vocal about it and post everywhere, loudly, while people for whom things go smoothly or aren't too demanding tend NOT to write about it.

The main advantages about Fizz, beside the low prices, are the monthly rolling over of unused data for the next two billing cycles and the "gifting" between Fizz's subscribers which permits you to select a monthly plan with less data than what you might subscribe for on another carrier. There's even a data exchange on Reddit if ever you find yourself short one month.

One last thing to consider: for many years, many people have complained that there's no real competition in the telecommunication industry with all the discount brands offering similar products at similar prices. Then comes along a new offering (Fizz) with more flexible options and lower prices. What did some people do? They used Fizz as leverage to get the same deal with their current provider instead of giving Fizz a chance. Nice! After so many years with your current provider, did they ever call you to offer you a cheaper deal? Why not vote with your feet! That's something to think about. Thinking Face

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have multiple phone numbers or lines in the same account?
Yes, that’s the easiest way, one account, one email address, one password. Or you could open multiple accounts to get multiple referral credits. Get a referral code from “someone” ;-) to open your first account “A”. Then “A” refers “B” then “B” refers “C”, etc. It’s one referral code per account, not one referral code per SIM card.

Where are Fizz stores located?
With Fizz, everything is digital. There are no Fizz stores or kiosk in malls. You can not get a SIM card at a Vidéotron kiosk either. Fizz and Vidéotron are separate entities.

Can I customize my own plan?
There are preset plans on the Website or you can very easily customize your own with only the options you want.

Can I get this if I’m living in Toronto?
In theory, no. Fizz is intended for subscribers in the province of Québec and the greater Ottawa region. That’s the subscription zone. If you roam more than 50% of the time for 3 months in a row you risk termination of your account.

Can I port in my number from Saskatchewan?
No, you can only port in a number from the province of Québec or the Ottawa region.

What are Fizz’s coverage zones?
Fizz is intended for subscribers from the province of Québec and the greater Ottawa region. That’s the subscription zone which is also the Québec coverage region. There’s the Canada coverage region which as the name indicates permits subscribers to use their phone anywhere in Canada. The Canada + USA coverage is the same deal but with obviously the USA included. You can receive phone calls/texts messages from anywhere in the World as long as you are within the coverage zone you selected for your plan.

What happens if I’m traveling outside Fizz’s network territory?
If you are in Canada, outside Fizz’s network territory, you will roam on Rogers, Bell or Telus. If you are in the USA, you will roam on AT&T or T-Mobile. Roaming is included without any other fee if you have the right coverage already included in your plan be it Canada or Canada + USA. Otherwise, you will be charged by the minute/per message/GB from the money you have already put in your Fizz wallet or you can buy an add-on.

Can I change my plan?
Yes. You can change your plan every month if you want. The change will take effect at the beginning of your next billing cycle. You can not make a change to your plan during the last 48 hours of your billing cycle.

Is an add-on considered a change of plan?
No, an add-on like adding minutes to use in the USA is not considered a change of plan.

Can I get a new number but port in my current number later?
Yes, when you activate a new SIM card, you can select a new number. Later, when you are ready to port in your old phone number, you will have to buy a new SIM card and activate it by selecting “Transfer a number to Fizz”. Then you will cancel the original SIM with the first number you got.

Are there advantages for families or group of friends who use Fizz?
Families might save serious money with Fizz because of the rollover data for 2 billing cycles and the gifting between subscribers. You might get away with less data per user knowing that data will rollover if one month you use less and that you can gift between family members if you are short one month. There is more flexibility with Fizz, you waste less data that expire each month. But please note that rollover data can not be gifted and that gifted data will not rollover. Also, you cannot re-gift data.

Can I give away an extra SIM card that I have ordered with my account but not activated?
Yes, SIM cards are not locked to the specific account from which they were ordered and can be activated in an other account.

How do I port multiple numbers to Fizz?
Start with activating a Fizz SIM card by porting a secondary number, then a second one, then a third, etc. Finish with the main number linked with your previous provider. That will close your account. If you start by porting your main number first, your former provider might close your account immediately and drop your secondary numbers. In any case, do not contact your previous provider about your intention to leave and let Fizz initiate the porting.

Do I need data to send/receive MMS?
Yes, you need texts and data to send/receive MMS.

Can I port in a VoIP number or a land line phone number to Fizz?
At the moment, that is not possible.

There are 2 places to enter a referral code, when you order a SIM card and when you activate it. Is one sufficient or do I need to input it twice?
When you get the chance to enter it while ordering the SIM card, do it then. If you get the chance again to enter it during the activation of the SIM, enter it again; it can't hurt. If you don't see it and you are about to click "Place my order", step back and/or cancel and start again after having deleted your cookies and Internet cache with CCleaner. If you DON'T enter a referral code, you WON'T get the referral credit and it's not retro-active. Fizz won't do anything for you afterward if you register WITHOUT a referral code.

When I created my new plan, I used a referral code from a fellow RFD member but I didn't click the green button validating the referral code. Obviously, I didn't receive the confirmation email about my credit. It's been already a week, can I do anything?
Unfortunately no, others have tried. Referral bonuses are not retro-active. Be careful when registering. The only thing you could do is cancel everything and ask for a refund under the 15 day refund policy. Clear your cookies and Internet cache with CCleaner then open a new account with another email address and repeat the process using as many different things as possible to maximize the chances that it works and that you get your credit. You could use the same credit card, a debit card or a pre-paid credit card. If you can, use your work address instead of your home address, under another name, etc.

Are local calls and texts add-ons unlimited?
No, it’s 60 minutes/200 outgoing texts.

Have been with Fizz for 17 months now. Started with the 120/20 plan, and recently bumped up to the 200/30 plan during their last promo over the holidays. Works perfectly fine. Installation was painless, and the profile switch from 120/20 to 200/30 was pretty seamless (they just did a remote reboot of the modem the night before and profile was changed). Has been stable overall and no issues (speed or connectivity).

Speedtest just taken with 2 teens online gaming and 1 TV streaming a program :)

Got this right after Xmas as well, for the same price, the $100 sign up bonus was nice. It was apparently the first time it was this high. Otherwise the regular $25 referral or $50 is good to use as well.
Speeds are great for me in Montreal, and the stacking discounts you get when you level up are pretty sweet on top.

has anyone heard about them fixing the issue with gaming with the modems?

I really want to switch but i play a specific game that needs no fluctuations, no packet loss and very low latency.

I don’t think so, I have a friend who has significant issues with video calls through fizz even though everything seems fine on her end.

I’ve been with Oxio for a few years now and everything’s been perfect, though they are more expensive at higher speeds I think.

The "issue" can not be fixed as it is related to the Intel Puma chip inside the modem which can suffer buffer delays when heavily solicited by many simultaneous requests. Like I wrote in post #2, if your household consists of many people that use heavy bandwidth applications all at once you should look at another Internet service provider and google the modem they use to know in advance if they use an Intel Puma chip. But it seems most ISP in Québec use modems with a Puma 5/6/7 chip. Over the years many have reported gaming without any problem with Fizz but if you are a serious online gamer for whom a ms means life or death, I suggest you look at another ISP.

That Puma chip issue is the kind of thing that the vast majority of people won't notice but will scare some away from a good deal. That's too bad. Cue the "Oh but it is a terrible issue and it's all over the Internet!" posts. I won't bite. Make your own mind. Shrug!

People sometimes misinterpret other issues and assume it is due to the PUMA bug.

The "all-ni-one" modem is fine for smaller homes, but its router and Wifi features are not the greatest (power or stability). I always recommend to people to get their own wifi router and/or access points, and convert the modem to Bridge mode. In my case, I have converted the Hitron 4680 to bridge mode (so not using the built in router and Wifi features, it is just s dumb modem). And I use my own router/firewall and my own WiFi access points.
In a household with 2 young adult "kids" who do a lot of gaming, we rely on VoIP for our Home phone, 3 TVs with IPTV and other streaming services, at least 2 (sometimes 3) of us still often working from home on Teams and Zoom meetings and I have never have any issues. Once my son complained about some slow ping times on some servers, but even after rebooting the modem the issue was still there and suspect it was a server issue, since then some of his friends also complained about similar issues (and this was only once in 17months).

Many people rely too much on crappy WiFi for gaming, streaming devices, laptops used for WFH on teams and zoom, and assume that any glitches are due to the PUMA bug. Most of the time, it is just due to crappy and unstable WiFi. Pretty much all my media boxes, PCs, and laptops are hardwired (only my phones and tablets use WiFi). There are many different qualities of wifi/routers. And there is a reason why the vary so much in cost ($50 for super basic Dlink junk), or $300+ for ASUS or some netgear models. Not all Wifi routers are created equal.

I have a friend who had bought $120 Dlink router from Costco last year. The router was so crappy that he could barely carry out an online meeting without everything freezing up constantly. I lent him my old ASUS AC66U (which I am no longer using), and he tried it for a week, and WHAT a difference. Needless to say, he returned the Dlink junk to Costco (lucky for costco return policy), and ended up picking up an ASUS model roughly around $250 on sale. And i has been solid.

So not all freezing people experience is due to the PUMA bug. It's easy to blame it on that, but people need to look at the big picture (especially when using WiFi).

I prefer using my own router/wifi equipment, that way if I need to change ISP, the only variable is the "modem" (which I use in bridge mode as just a dumb modem), and my internet network infrastructure stability is not affected.

When I switched from my previous ISP, I just put the Fizz modem in bridge mode, then proceeded to swap out the old Hitron CDA-RES modem from my previous ISP, to the Hitron CODA-4680 from Fizz and then the rest was transparent. No WiFi SSID to redo, not DHCP reservations to change, no devices to reconnect, no nothing (since I had all my own router and WiFi access points - and those did not change).

If your friends is relying on the provided Fizz modem for WiFi and routing, then that could be the issue.

With OXIO, they provide only a modem, you need to provide your own router. Oxio presently only offers 3 modems to QC customers. 2 out of the 3 (the Arris and the Hitron) both have PUMA chips. The 3rd model is only offered to those with 400Mbs plans (but also a modem only). The best modem they "used" to offer was the TCM4400, but it is no longer offered, and was also just a modem. So none of the modems OXIO offers (or has offered) are router/wifi, they are just Modems.

So to do a fair comparison, the Fizz customer should get their own decent quality router, put the Fizz modem into Bridge mode, and then use their own router.

I work 3 out of 5 days a week from home and in teams video call meetings pretty much all day back to back, and it is solid and smooth. And often when I get bored in some meetings, I turn on one of my IPTV boxes and stream music videos in the background on my 4th monitor :)

The price of the internet 200/30 was 53$ 2-3 weeks ago. So i don't think 55$ is a good deal.

Agreed.. BUT that is NOT an all-in-one box. That is still a separate wifi-router which is a lot better than any all-in-one modem/router/wifi. That is one of the flaws with the Fizz modem (not the service itself).

Keeping the modem and wifi-router separate, keeps things flexible. The modem is the modem which always does the same job unless you choose a faster profile that the modem can handle. The wifi-router however does change over time. Went from Wifi 5 to Wifi 6, and you have all sorts of other factors, with people wanting Mesh networks for larger homes, and better firewalls in their routers, etc...

Many ISPs (like OXIO, Altima, etc..) include a separate WiFi router if you need it. It is a lot better that way. HOWEVER, if you have your own home (not just short term rental), long term, you are better off investing in your own equipment (router/firewall and Wifi access point etc..). This way, if you ever change ISP, you don't need to start all over reconfiguring your WiFi SSID, passwords, DHCP reservations, any port forwarding you have set up, any VPNs you have configured on your routers, etc..

I don't see the issue with him posting the deals. He spends time gathering all the info, including FAQ and not hiding any facts or misleading anyone. They are not for everyone. If you need it, then $55 is not a bad deal (right now). Unless you have FTTH available in your area, get a limited 12 or 24 month deal on it, and get gigabit internet, I don't think you will find a better price for 200Mbps internet, in QC at least. Also, you don't need to deal with B(h)ell, which is a bonus. And don't need to worry about price hikes over your subscription period. The price you get will remain and can only go down. If they offer the $53 price again, you can easily jump on it, and lose nothing. You apply for it, and your next billing period will be at the new price. You are NOT bound to any contracts. But they will also not automatically decrease your price. You see it, you apply for it, you get it. Otherwise, price is fixed. I was recently paying $50/m for 120/20 and it was fine for me, and during the $53 promo for 200/30 I decided to jump to that one. So even though my $50 for 120/20 was also a promo price from 17 months ago, the price remained stable even though it had gone up for new subscribers in the meantime. And truth is, a little activity on their forums and you get a few more discounts. I think just for subscribing on the forums, you get $1 or $2/m discount you can apply to your monthly bill.

Not saying Fizz is for everyone (since everything, including customer support is only online - no one you can call to talk to). BUT, one very nice thing is that you don't need to worry about the constant price hikes, like bell, where the only thing that they guarantee is the discounts, NOT the base price which keeps climbing.

Sure $55 is not as good as $53. But $53 is not available right now (and may not be offered again till next year). So $55 is better than $65/m or $60/m.

Having been a happy Fizz subscriber since its launch over 4 years ago, I have followed it on Reddit and on Fizz's community forums. I have shared that knowledge with the RFD community by "maintaining" (that is answering questions when I can) so yes, I would say I'm an expert about Fizz and my threads have become more and more elaborate over the years when compared to others. So it might LOOK like they are from a Fizz representative but I've been on RFD since 2011 with over 10,000 posts and almost 20,000 upvotes. So no, I'm not a Fizz representative.

As for posting every single price change, that is not the case. The $53 price promotion for the 200/30 Mbps ended on January 10th and then the price went back up to $65. I think a $10 monthly rebate is worth its own thread while there are many other price fluctuations with the Fizz mobile service that are not worth posting about.

My Fizz threads are no different than any other thread from other RFD members who share deals from other Internet Service Providers like Oxio, Fido or Cogeco. Or any other mobile service provider offer that get a thread in the Hot Deals forum like Koodo, Virgin or Speakout. That is no different either than other RFD members who "maintain" credit card or bank promotions threads like TD, Simply, CIBC or Tangerine.

Telecom prices are cheaper in Québec because there is more competition and I'm happy to encourage competition by sharing Fizz's deals with the RFD community.

I have always posted in my threads NOT to ask or offer referrals (as per RFD rules) and believe me, people listen! Google is many people's friend.

Unfortunately no Videotron where I live. They do have it two town away (40km) though. We only have one option here (Sogetel Fiber Optic) for Internet and TV service.

Shrug!
Thanks!! We are a small 2 persons household, 3 computerS+2 tabletS+ phoneS, but mostly idled or off. From time to time, I get a "?? conflict" or "too many connections" warning on one of my computers (but no problem working on internet_, guess it's caused by the Puma chip that u mentioned.

The price of the internet 200/30 was 53$ 2-3 weeks ago. So i don't think 55$ is a good deal.

I'm a happy Fizz internet client since Fizz beta. I was relatively active when Fizz started years back, but couldn't manage to follow all the responds. Don't know if OP get much referral, but if anyone does, he/she 200% deserves it.

Question: I believe one needs to "change plan" if FIZZ price drop. I'm still paying super low beta/introductory internet price when I first subscribed during Beta. Is it an official policy that price never change once subscribed, or just Beta internet price never change(per Fizz's promise)

Nice weekend to all!
