What's your budget?

If you want high output you'll need to use 18650 lithium batteries which need a separate charger.

Check out budgetlightforum or candlepower forums, lots of info there. Be warned, your wallet will never forgive you lol

Just missed an awesome deal recently on this awesome light. amazon-ca-lumintop-fw3a-flashlight-free ... l-2473500/

I use a Pelican 3310 around the house and when I go camping. It's fully waterproof, glows in the dark, takes 3 AA batteries, and has two brightness settings that are each more than bright enough to see something in the back yard. I bought it from MEC for $50ish back in 2017.

I've owned a lot of flashlights. Most of the time, my go-to are headlamps because I like the benefits of hands-free. But for raw flashlight power, you can never go wrong with Thrunite, Nitecore, or Maglite brands. I have the Thrunite TC15 and it is outstanding. It really depends on how much you want to spend. Here's a couple of flashlight review articles to narrow it down for you.

The Best Flashlight - Wirecutter (NY Times)

Buyer’s Guide: The Best Flashlights - Bob Vila (of This Old House fame)

Not sure if it's still being offered, but you can get a free little Thrunite flashlight from this RFD post. free-thrunite-flashlight-facebook-youtu ... #p34300240

Happy hunting!

or this one

https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mast ... p.html#srp

either can be cheaper in store on sale

I have a couple of the gun versions and wand version rechargeable from ct paid 9.99 for each in store they are great bang for buck. The guns are bright durable I even swam under the water with it to find some glasses off a dock at night and it worked underwater.

the raccoons are there every night and they are everywhere especially if you water the grass late at night or after a rain. They dig up the grass or garden or especially fresh sod for night crawlers to snack on.

Its the coves you should be a little concerned with if your walking a small dog after dark.

I've purchased different torches from ThruNite, Fenix, Nitcore etc but the torch I keep on going to for every day carry or travel is the sk68 clone (or sipik68 clone)...........

Image

It was cheap (not sure about now), takes a single AA or you can buy a barrel extension to use up to 3 AAs..............sturdy, has a nice sliding zoom and a nice heft to it....

Just make sure to buy from a reputable seller if buying from ebay and make sure to get the Q5 version...............you can also use a 14500 battery but I haven't bothered - using 2 xAA is decent enough.......

If you wanted to try 14500 batteries, you can get them from RONA, in-store.
I think they use them for their solar lights, so it's around that aisle.
UBERHAUS 2 pack for $8.
They should be a bit brighter than AA.

I use Olight brand myself, but most of the brands referred in this thread are good.
Just make sure you know what batteries they use and whether they are rechargeable or not. Batteries can be costly. I would get one with at least 300-500 lumens. Some also specify the type of reflector used which would determine the light pattern. (spotlight or more like a floodlight)

Amen brother.

My sk68 clone (then sold by tomtop on ebay) is going strong since 2012. Got a cheapie "police" light to scavenge a barrel extension and it has been my workhorse light ever since. Been knocked around and lent out, still works great.

I'm out of date on the current state of the SK68/clone market, wish I could suggest a seller.

Last I heard there were several variations and quality levels of these lights - the outside casing looked the same, but the internal component assembly varied. I recall it came down to circuit board colors and how the wires were soldered, the flashlight community is VERY intense so you can expect very technical teardowns and critiques of each little diode/resistor/etc.

It's awesome, lithium cells pack way more energy and therefore more output that you just can't get with AA batteries, but not without risk - these cells can be dangerous if handled improperly (anything from overheating and causing burns to small explosions/fires) so best to do your research

Seems it is just for use in flashlight.

I'm not in Toronto but there seems to be some flashlight stores with showrooms there.
Might be good to try a few types of flashlights even if you're not buying.
j2ledflashlight.com
The really good flashlights cost over $100, so don't be surprised.

I have Nitecore EC4S/EC4SW flashlights, ~2000 lm, which can light up any raccoons and the rest of the backyard.
One was around $141 (local store markup).

it looks to be the same torch but seems like the price has changed quite a bit................apologies, I haven't been keeping up with the sk68 / sipik68 clone as I bought 8 of them back in the day (back in 2012-3) and have been good with them ever since.

Like @M1K3Z0R mentioned, I'm also out of touch with a reputable seller.

I'd suggest pick one up from a reputable ebay seller (and make sure it is Q5 version) and see how it turns out.........

Search "Tactical Flashlight" amazon site.

Most of these Tactical Flashlights are good. Find one that use only 1AA battery.
