Does this have any advantage over the Fido 4GB data plan?

Would be fun but it doesn't work in carplay

Also since it's all DATA, if you get lots of calls you'll bust your 2GB easy

The Fongo app already provides unlimited calling for free. all you're paying for is the 5gb for over 30bucks. I'd say just get a data plan from another provider ie. 4gb/$15 w Fido, and use their app.

I've been using Fongo for 5years, it's gotten a lot better, but not a replacement for an actual voice provider for frequent callers. The pro is that it's free, the con is also that it's free. I would've happily paid $5/mo to be registered as an actual mobile number with netnumbers, have better call quality, and be able to get all of my calls instead of just 1/3 of em.

What prevents this from working with CarPlay?

Apple blocks the other applications on the device besides the voice calling feature, or is it only the voice calling feature because it's through the Fongo App?

What i mean is that Fongo cannot be installed on the carplay head unit

But if you are on bluetooth and someone calls you trhough fongo you will be able to answer

Also (at least in french)

If i do Siri call this number with Fongo, it opens the fongo app but doesn't dial

Kinda sucks

I agree with Chrisc19, I’ve been using Fongo App from 3 years and have noticed similar issues if not more. Sometimes after keying in all the numbers dial pad will just close without making outgoing call, no beep no dial tone just shuts off. I have also missed several incoming calls, One time my friends tried calling me standing across a parking lot and Fongo didn’t even ring. So, Yes I don’t think Fongo App will replace your mobile sim, Just consider it as beta stage Free VoIP App.

VOIP call does not take that much data at all.

Does Fongo gives you an actual SIM card? How could hey provide you with data with just using the app?

Most likely it's Rogers. A few months back Worldline (which is a "sister" company of Fongo, as in they're both brands of Fibernetics) launched a data only plan and it was through Rogers. They didn't even bother to use whitelabeled (or plain white) SIM cards, they had the Rogers logo on them:

So they give you a data only SIM card that pop in your phone and use the Fongo app for voice?

It says unlimited voice so what happens when you use the 5GB or does the fongo app not count towards the cap?

Maybe but remember that you lose some of features compare to normal provider

Exemple iPhone

If you wanna text Android or receive from android you’ll need to pass by Fongo

If you pass with other iPhones for iMessage the message app will work otherwise you pass by Fongo

You get a new SIM. That means you will get a carrier phone number. This looks to be prepaid. You should be able to receive text to your assigned number
