[Microsoft] Free office suites, Photoshop alternatives and other cool freeware!

A random selection of Windows freeware that I find useful:

PhotoFiltre: A downsized PhotoShop-type application that can handle most graphic needs. www.photofiltre.com

Kingsoft Office Suite Free: A very good Microsoft Office clone from China. (Don't confuse it with the commercial version, which costs $49.95). http://www.kingsoftstore.com/kingsoft-o ... eware.html

There's also the excellent LibreOffice, at www.libreoffice.org. It's the latest version of the OpenOffice.org code, and I'd suggest using Libre instead of Open. They both still look very similar, but Libre is forking away and has the much more active development team.

Ziepod: The best non-iTunes podcast client I've found. www.ziepod.com

i2pdf: An easy free image-file (JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, GIF) to PDF converter. From: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-too ... 2pdf.shtml

PotPlayer: Yes, that's what it's called. Despite the name, a very worthy media player from Korea that competes with VLC and KMPlayer. http://potplayer.en.softonic.com/

Trelby: A new, free word processor for screenwriters. Still in beta, but has some great features. www.trelby.org

Celtx: Trelby's more established, Canadian older cousin. Also a good screenwriting word processor, which can be used for TV, radio and comic book scripts as well.
www.celtx.com

Celtx and Trelby both have their strengths and weaknesses, and since they're both free, why not try them both?

My pleasure! Just keep in mind that PhotoFiltre is a relatively small program. It can do a lot, but it can't do everything Photoshop can. If you need something more powerful, you might want to consider The Gimp www.gimp.org or Paint.net www.paint.net.
