Looks like chatr is having a promo until March 31st.
First Month Free on any plan + a Free SIM Card.
I needed a glove box phone for my mom. Signed up at Walmart yesterday on the $10 plan, got a free SIM plus a $25 Walmart GC which I used to pay for my $10 voucher.
Other retailers are doing similar offer but are giving customer free voucher in the same amount as the plan they choose (Wirelesswave, WOW, Best Buy, etc)

So, how does this work?
Go into a store, pick up a SIM, load up any plan, come out, let it die after 1 month? That's it? No credit check, no purchase, no deposit, no cancellation, etc?

yes that is correct.
you have to activate in store. Good promo if you want to try out the service or "need" another phone.

Do you know if it has to be a chatr store, or can it be any 3rd party vendor like Costco, T-Booth, Walmart, etc?

chatr store or any third party retailer should be able to fulfill this offer.
I had some troubles at Walmart yesterday as the teenager had no idea about the promo but after making a call to her manager she figured it out.

Just keep in mind that chatr does not grandfather prices and likes to increase them arbitrarily. Just see the Mobilicity merger thread -- they kept prices steady for a year but have started to increase them by $5 every 6 months.

Do they have any good plans for people with low data usage?
Will it be difficult to switch back (currently using data less Roger pay as you go) afterwards?
Sorry for the dumb questions. I'm really not familiar with phone stuff.

That’s not exactly true. I signed up for the 20GB/$50 BlackFriday plan in Nov 2015. This rate increased to $60 in Nov 2017, so two years without an increase. Still paying $60 today which is still must better than any other plan.SomeGuyNamedBob wrote: ↑ Just keep in mind that chatr does not grandfather prices and likes to increase them arbitrarily.
