[Freedom Mobile] Freedom Nationwide Talk Text 5GB $199/year

This is a great deal for low data users which includes unlimited calling and global texting with 5GB of Nationwide data valid for 1 year. If broken down into a monthly cost it works out to $16.58 per month. If it's anything like their talk and text plan for $99 a year, it only requires the 911 fee be paid once as the full charge applies to the first month and the remaining 11 months are considered free. The 5GB is at LTE speeds and once fully consumed will continue at throttled speeds until the 365 days have elapsed. The $15 1GB LTE add-on for 30 days is still an option for those with a need for speed once they've used up the 5GB, again this plan is aimed at those that are not heavy data users. This plan also includes on compatible devices VoLTE and WiFi Calling which can be used outside of Canada.

So it's like $100 for 5GB if we consider that they offer talk/text for $99.

$8.33 a month for 416MB.

Meh

So the 5gb isn’t monthly, it’s for the whole year ?

Yep for the year.

The fact it's 5GB for the WHOLE year is wild. If they made that 1GB-2GB per month, then it would be a solid plan.

The $99/year plan can have data added at 15 dollars a GB. It works out to be a better deal than the above plan at ~$20 a gigabyte, from the $8.33 a month for 416MB ($8.33/0.416GB).

Move on, it's for 5GB/year, nothing to see here.... As @ThiagoSCF said above they just added 5GB to their $99 plan and charging $100 more for it...

Freedom is getting worse and worse....

This data package honestly only suits people that use very little data per month like myself. If it included 5GB per month Nationwide it would be incredible considering Freedom pays the incumbents almost $15/GB when roaming on their networks.

So around $16.67 pre-tax a month.
Too bad they can't get it down closer to Public Mobile's $13ish plan (on auto pay).

Or, up to Public's network quality for any price.

PM $13: 100outgoing/250MB <---- I need ~$2 more for calling beyond 100min = $15/mo
This $16.62~: unlimited/416MB
PM $23: unlimited/1000MB
Freedom $24: unlimited/1500MB

It's best for people who are on PM$13, but going over 100 minutes or data, and don't want to go to next tier at $23. I also got FRDM 1.5GB for $19 on promo but wasn't even using it all so this is a sweet spot.

You can do better if you look at data or minutes separately, but not combined (eg: seniors or a second phone)
Better math here:

PM $13: 100 outgoing/250MB so 12m x 250Mb = 3GB/year
2GB [PM add-on] =2x $15 = $30= $2.5/month

So PM with same amount of data is $15.50 a month - $1 cheaper [limited to 100 minutes outgoing calls per month but unlimited incoming so one can ride it just fine. On Telus network.]

And for that $1 saving I can get [almost] extra 1GB data add-on...

Edit:

Text people to call you, it's free...

Exactly why I recently left Freedom, after the days of Wind starting...

Pathetically, even their CS was texting me to say.... they can't reach me when I was dealing with that problem... what problem?? ... they never even admitted there is a problem...

I just dropped 3x 35% F&F discount for life and went to Zoomer and PM...

LULUMON wrote: Can't change behavior it's for senior. $15/mo with PM is minimum for this usage case.
But you are aware that with 1GB data add-on and $5 for 500min talk add-on you will have seniors on the way more reliable network without disrupting any of their habits??

Anyway, just sayin'...

I had one call recently from an employer to tell me I got the job. Makes me sick thinking of what could've been if I hadn't followed up.

The only good prepaid plan that I saw on the Freedom page that included data was 29.00/month for unlimited talk, unlimited text and 3 gb per month data.

Works out to $16.58/mo, for unlimited nationwide talk, global SMS/MMS and an average of 416MB per month.
Alternative low data option option is the $15 PM/FM plan limited to 100 min outbound, and just 250MB.

An extra $1.58 for unlimited outgoing calls and almost twice the data is outrageous, judging from the posts here.

Fun fact: The nationwide 5GB of this plan could cost Freedom as much as $70.
The incumbents charge Freedom $14/GB for data used on their networks.
Half an hour of talk per day off-network would cost Freedom $7-$14 per month, depending on the incumbent.

The plan may not have curb appeal to RFD dealmeisters, but it's certainly not unreasonably priced.

I unfortunately find a need to defend the plan based on its merits while recognizing and respecting that a majority don't think it's a great deal. This plan does not suit those using a lot of data per month, whereas there a number of users that use less than a GB/month, the reality is they must be in the minority to which I belong. Personally, I do like that the 5GB is valid for 365 days. I found the last few months that I had only been using less than 100MB on average.

Edit: I did a chat with Freedom to ask what happens to the data connection if the 5GB has been used up before the year has ended. The response is that the data connection would continue at throttled speeds until the 365 days has elapsed. At the end of the 365 days customers can keep the same plan or switch to other plans on offer.

I have something called add-on plan for $10 ($15 - 5) for unlimited talk, text + 1GB
Definitely I have the $37.5 per month 13 GB main plan.
