[Freedompop US] US Only Sim with Free Talk/Text/Data - US only LTE GSM SIM - $0.99 - BEWARE OF MONTHLY $.01 MAINT. FEE
UPDATE JULY 11, 2018 - You will no longer earn 50mb of data per friend upto max. of 500 mb. Going forward, it will be 5mb per friend upto max. 50mb of data per month on top of the 200 free. 250mb is nowhere near enough especially if top-up is enabled as they will charge your account when you are within 100mb which effectively only give you 150mb data. This is terrible news. I didn't receive the emails yet on any of my accounts but credit kneevase for the notification.

Aug 30, 2017 - They removed the ability to "share" data between friends now so the max data you will get from the sims are 700mb compared to the 1.2gb.

MORE RECENT CHANGES NOW FORCE YOU TO PAY $5 BEFORE YOU CAN DOWNGRADE TO THE FREE PLAN. THE $5 WILL BE ADDED TO YOUR ACCOUNT AND YOU CAN USE THAT TO COVER ANY OVERAGES. IT ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO TURN OFF AUTOMATIC TOP-UPS WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY ANOTHER $5.

FP recently changed the terms to include a monthly Maintenance fee of $0.01 for inactivity so users may start to notice this. Not a huge amount but its the principal. We signed up for free service and they shouldn't start charging us without notice. Thanks to utelurtz for this. Looks like they were updated March 1, 2017.
ANYONE THAT HAS PURCHASED THE LTE SIM LATELY, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DOWNGRADED BOTH PLANS AND SERVICES. YOU MAY STILL GET CHARGED THE FEE FOR THE PREMIUM SERVICE: Credit to Nam5588

Thanks to tmonies for pointing out that the price has dropped.
You will see the price of $1.99 at checkout. As always, downgrade immediately to avoid unwanted charges. This makes the deal super hot imo for AT&T LTE.

The coverage is mostly for EU and USA. In the US you will get HSPA speeds using AT&T network. No LTE and no coverage in Canada.
Voice calls are made through the Freedompop app and is VOIP. The app is not available through the CDN Google play store but you can get it through apkpure:

Promo comes with intro 1GB of data so you will need to DOWNGRADE EVERYTHING (this includes both Plans and Services under the "My Account" tab) immediately to avoid future recurring charges. After downgrade, you only get 200 mins, 500 texts & 200MB per month for FREE. You can add an extra 500mb of data per month by adding Freedom Friends here:

You can share your data upto 100mb of data/month amongst friends so if you have multiple accounts, you can give yourself more data each month if needed.
Don't ask for "Friends" or the mods will lock the thread
You can also add 100 min/month of Global talk for Free.
See thread summary below or previous RFD thread for tips and tricks on how to order and/or get the card shipped to Canada if you're not near the border.

My recommendation would be to login to your online account once a month and that should be enough to keep your account active. Thats what I have been doing. I haven't used my FP GSM sim cards or my CDMA phones every since I started using Ringplus yet all my FP accounts are still active and have not been charged any fees.
The max. amount of data you can receive from friends per month is 500 mb. This is in addition to the 500 mb you get from adding freedom friends. I tried getting more but the system would not allow it.
I picked up my sim cards today. All sims came activated this time. Inserted sim to unlocked phone, and "Synced data" and it automatically registered within the FP Messaging app. Took a pic of the packaging in case anyone is looking to use a freight forwarding place like Mymallbox.
If you plan on using mymallbox, please see instructions:

January 17, 2018 - Freedompop now charges $15 to downgrade to the initial trial month plan to the free plan. This is another way for them to scam more money out of us. To get around this, see post #1495. This is something that everyone needs to be aware of before deciding to try these guys out.kneevase wrote: ↑ FreedomPop
FreedomPop Update
FreedomPop has been subject to targeted abuse by users leveraging multiple accounts to aggregate additional free data. We have tried to battle the abuse by adding conditions around accounts with no data usage over several months, but unfortunately we have been forced to limit the friends sharing program.
Please note that going forward with your next billing cycle, you will earn 5MB/month per friend with a max cap of 50MB/month on earned data or shared data.

There is apparently a "bug" in the system which may keep your premium service even if you thought you unsubscribed. What you need to do:
once logged into your account, paste or type the following link into the address bar (instead of just going into 'My Account' as this you should have done already) - PLS EDIT TO REMOVE THE SPACES: https : // www . freedompop . com / acct _ overview . htm
You will see your account overview. At the bottom of the screen, under 'My Services', you will likely discover this:
FreedomPop Premium Plus $7.99/mo
Click on the 'view details' link next to the text above, and, as usual, you will see at the very bottom in size 2 font: "To deactivate the FreedomPop Premium Plus service, click here"
You know what to do once you get there, right?
Even if you have disabled auto pop-up and changed your billing details to a prepaid card, once you get hit with the $8 charge, it's all over, so do the above for all your LTE accounts.

There are no annual fees or maintenance fees if you have Downgraded everything to the free plan. One of my account did experience an inactivity period after no usage for about 3 months but I was able to login to my account online and reactivate without any charge.pkphilip wrote: ↑ In the past, I can't use PayPal for any promotional sales. Maybe that's changed now..
My NTrust card has less than $5 balance but it still works with FP.
If you happened to pay $5 to opt out auto load up, the balance will expire once in a while, but you can go to the Billing section to reactive it. It seems I can do it indefinitely when it is expired.
For the ebate.com, you just need to copy and link for the sale page you want to buy, then click the ebate link, once it logged your click through and FP set the cookie, you can then paste the correct link to check out. I had success with 6 of 8 transaction with this. The other 2 transaction I had ebate credit me afterward when I uploaded the receipt and order number.

Freedom Pop keeps removing the SUITE NUMBER for the people using "U.S. mail address services". The trick is to ALWAYS put the "#SUITE XXX" in the address line (even when checking if there is "service in your area"). It will keep it the suite number. If your address is 123 Main St Suite 1234, use "123 Main Street SUITE 1234" all on 1 line and it should work.
