Stay away from this when they do upgrades your services will go down. Then you have to cancel. The cancellation process is tedious and troublesome. I had original sim 3g called in to cancel they down grade lower plan left upgraded sim 3-1 LTE unchanged then billed one year later as prepayment in PayPal. $32.98 USD for service that was never active as sim was still in package. PayPal said they had prepayment setup and every month will be $32.98usd. I tried calling them but since account inactive or they cancelled first sim card no new number was transfer to LTE sim but they charge me anyway then refuse refund it since I file dispute with PayPal and BBB. After 3 phone calls and threatening PayPal to cancel my account they issue refund. But freedompop got to keep my $32.98 USD. So it took more time to dispute and headaches if you sign up this horrible company. Not worth $0.01 cause it cost me more $32.98 for not being able to use it for even a month.

Anyone actually took their offer of " upgrading" their Global sim to the US Only LTE sim? I got their " final reminder" that " Some" older sims will no longer work. I don't travel to US that often.. maybe once/twice a year. Will have to get the new sim mailed to ameri-friend again and have them send it to me in their christmas card...

Edit: Looks like they've disabled my account now. Just says "Device is shipping/processing" ... i hope they dont send anything.

Well I'm done with the service. Just cancelled my 3 accounts. I got use out of it about 5 or 6 times over the past couple of years but some time last year my 700MB monthly data allotments were reduced to 200MB and despite having a gazillion FP friends (including myself) I couldn't get or give data despite the fact that the web site still showed these functions.

Is anyone having trouble opening the app up here now? It gives me some garbage about contact customer service to activate, but of course the website says my plan is fine, not inactive.

Which app, the Messaging one (this is their main app, that auto-logins based on the SIM card) or the OTT one?

They updated the Messaging app about a month ago, and since then there were a lot of issues with it. I had to downgrade back to the pre-March version.

Just saw this on SD:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost. ... stcount=44

I would suggest not cancelling, wait for email before month end. Ting's rep on Reddit said this

Check his message at https://www.reddit.com/r/freedompop/com ... its_boost/

Ting will send you a email by month end

From what we can gather, RedPocket will be handling the brand and GSM subscribers. CDMA customers, on the other hand, will be transitioned to Ting.

For FP CDMA customers: We are super excited for this. A lot of hard work went into making this one of our smoothest CDMA transitions yet. But I know you have questions. I've got answers. If you still have questions after reading this stuff below, please ask away and I'll be happy to answer.

FreedomPop is going out of business?

Not exactly. FreedomPop and Ting have made an agreement to transfer the customers who want to stick around over to Ting CDMA with a special offer.

I don't want to move to Ting

I get it. Some people just aren't a fan of our rates, or of how we do business. Or believe they've been burned in the past. Rest assured, if you don't want to become a part of the Ting family, we won't keep you. We'll have details sent to your FreedomPop email address closer to the end of this month with what you need to do.

What will my bill be?

We're still working on that and hope to announce it shortly. What we have set in stone is that it's not going to be the current rates at ting.com/rates — we're working on a special deal between us and FreedomPop that allows former FreedomPop CDMA customers to take advantage of a special rate plan. Again, details will follow later this month.

We also know for sure we will not be adopting the FreedomPop freemium model. We'll be sticking with our own clear, postpaid billing.

What do I need to do right now?

Nothing yet. Whether you want to become a Ting customer, want to port your number elsewhere or just outright cancel your account, once the details are made final we'll be emailing you at the email address on your FreedomPop account. That email will include the next steps, including steps to take if you don't want to be a Ting customer.

I want to cancel FreedomPop right now

While we can't stop you, we would strongly discourage it. While things are still moving and shaking on our end in the negotiations with FreedomPop, we do know will be giving special incentives to FreedomPop CDMA customers who want to "wait and see" what life on Ting is like. If you cancel before then, you won't have the option of seeing what these incentives or promo plans are, nor will you be able to take advantage of them. Hold tight, and once we hammer out the details, then you can determine if we're the right fit for you.

Will you be offering a free plan like FreedomPop?

Probably not. It's really difficult to be a business that gives away something very expensive for free. But we expect the the limited-time offer will be very enticing to existing FreedomPop CDMA users.

Will I need a new phone or SIM card?

Nope. That's the beauty of the Sprint network. We'll get your IMEI and SIM card number from FreedomPop before the migration date (unknown at this time but being hammered out between FP and Ting right now) and the email you receive from us will have tons of details about your next steps.

I have another question unrelated to the FreedomPop deal

Please feel free to email us at help@ting.com or send me an email at mitch@ting.com — Sometimes it takes me a bit to reply, but I do reply to every email I receive.

The end has finally come. Knew this would eventually happen as the Freemium model was just not sustainable.

If you're not on their Sprint service then you'll need to wait for update on the RedPocket side (re:AT&T sim)

I have a FreedomPop sim from years ago (at least 3 years), and it was working. I haven't touched it again till now. When I just logged into my account online, my old number is gone and those email addresses I added in the past for referral credits are gone. The free Global 200 Plan is still there though. I wonder if the old SIM still works. I keep seeing their message saying they are switching (switched) to LTE SIM. I remember I saw that even I was using it years ago but I didn't change the SIM. I just registered a new number under my account now online. I wonder what I need to do next. The problem is that I can't test it if it works before I go to US. Do need to order a new SIM ? I remember some said the old SIM work better and work globally.

The last time I used it I remember I had to use the FreedomPop with their app, is it still the case ? or just put my old SIM in ?

Thanks for any advice.

As far as I know the GlobalSim is dead. Even though you can access your account via their phone app. Their US only LTE sim may still work. Even if they still work, after nerfing the friends bonus it's not really that useful anyways.

Feel free to try it if you're in the US, but don't count on it to be your primary communication sim

Well no worries because they are being bought out by two virtual carriers.
