Freestanding deck or addition on helical piles
Hello all,
I'm wondering if any of you out there has xperience with having built a deck or four season room freestanding on helical piles. I have brick veneer so I would like to avoid using a ledger. My plan is to build a freestanding deck on helical piles. The deck may be turned into a four season room years down the road. I want to use 10 ft piles near the house and seven feet piles away from the house. But my engineer is raising doubts. He says that helical piles always end up moving a bit so the deck must be attached via a ledger board using the Simpson tie or something like that. What do you think? The deck is 10x11 and 53 in off the ground.
