Furnace and a/c

Hey all,
I'm new here. This year our central air stopped working. We had someone out to look at it who advised us that the refrigerant was low and one of the coils likely had a leak. He quoted $972 plus hst for leak detector and seal and recharge with R22. He then quoted $900-3000 plus hst to fix the leak in the coil depending on which coil.

Alternatively he provided the following quotes:
RUUD RA 13 seer central air installed $4,443 plus hst
Goodman GSX 13 seer installed $4,278 plus hst

Or

RUUD U96V high efficiency furnace with above RUUD central air installed $9,137 plus hst
Goodman GMEC96 furnace with above Goodman central air installed for $8,147 plus hst.

Do these seem like reasonable prices? Would you recommend either brand? Any advice you can provide is helpful! Thank you!

Repair seem high, but depends on your location.
I like Ruud equipment.
Goodman GMVC96(1 model higher) would be the apples to apples comparison to he U96V

Prices are very high if you are in the GTA, you can get a Trane XR13 installed for $3400 which is a lot better than Goodman. I suggest you get 3 quotes for a new A/C, and don't replace your furnace if it's not giving you trouble. Furnace and A/C last 15-20 years.

House built in 2006 ... 1800 sq ft detached in Oshawa.

Original Furnace was Luxaire (Goodman) Model GM9S060B12UP11J from 2006 ... replaced with a Lennox Model ML296UH070XV36B-55 for $3000+HST in October 2019.

Original AC is 2-Ton York Model AY024MA321A from 2006 ... just had a guy come by yesterday to check it ... it was running for 8 hours but temperature never dropped. Refrigerant level was ABSOLUTE ZERO! Well, he couldn't recharge it yesterday because of the temperature. He said next week going to swing by to recharge. Also asked about a new one ... quoted 2-ton Carrier for $3000 installed.

2006 A/C I wouldn't waste money fixing, if the refrigerant was really at zero and the compressor was running then the compressor is gonna be junk because no oil. $3000 installed for a carrier sounds like a good idea.

Look at the group buy and see if you can get in on it.
I checked and no one can beat that price for the Trane.

Not sure if Craig @fourseasoncomfort will go to London. It’s 2 hours from his base in Brampton. 4 hours round trip is hard to justify when he could be using that time to do another install

OP if you are still looking I can have a friend contact you. If so DM your information. He might go that far.

Thanks! I sent him a message to see if he'd be willing to travel to London!

Im now shopping around for AC quotes too. Im looking at Lennox as they seem to be the best prices. I've not had a Trans quoted near $3400, Mississauga.
Also was told R22 refrigerant is no longer legal go sell or service. I wouldn't service an old AC at the prices quoted by OP. Put the money towards a new unit. I'm keeping my 10-year-old furnace because it's fine. Had one guy push me to change entire system so I could be worry free! Ya right, no thanks.
