Why do people bother with ANY of this when they can use O365 or Google Docs for free?Spiritualx wrote: ↑ Why do people bother with this when you can just use an activator (just make sure to get it from a non sketchy source)
Anyone paying for Office for home or school use has rocks in their head. You don't need it.
Yes, if you're working in the Enterprise or professional use, you may need it to make sure your Powerpoints work etc. But in that scenario, your company buys it, not you.

His point was about paying. But the desktop Office apps are 10X superior to the O365 browser alternatives in many ways. So it is still worth it to use an activator.
Google Docs is not used enough and compatibility with xlsx and pptx still sucks.
I've always assumed for software like Office, Photoshop, etc. that they price them super high knowing most people will pirate but they recoup their cash with businesses that are better off buying legally.

But buying these is STILL 'stealing cheese'! You're just paying someone so that you can steal the cheese. That's the point. People are convincing themselves that these keys are more 'legit' that outright cracking. They aren't.IslandDeal wrote: ↑ For the same reason most people don't go to the supermarket and steal cheese.
You might get away with it but it's not right.
If people can't afford MS Office, switch to the Free Open Office.
Also, you might have access to super cheap MS licenses through your Employer:

Likely not. MS killed the HUP program roughly a year ago and replaced it with a pathetic small discount on an O365 subscription. Used to be able to get it for $13 for a persistent license. Now it's 30% off the yearly subscription. No thanks.IslandDeal wrote: ↑ FYI : You might have access to cheap MS licenses through your Employer:

I don't see it like that. You are buying a legit license (Microsoft will get their $$$). I suspect it's a license from a country that is less well to do than Canada where licenses are cheaper.repatch wrote: ↑ But buying these is STILL 'stealing cheese'! Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Costco sell "Grey Market" goods? EG: Either they sell stuff destined for USA or perhaps they are not an approved distributor in Canada. That's not illegal, it might not be as profitable for the manufacturers, but Costco isn't being shut down by the competition bureau or by the Police for selling "illegal" goods.

Paying or not paying aside, you do know the MS365 subscription (no longer called O365 for quite a while now), also lets you download desktop apps, right..?je190060 wrote: ↑ Bad take.

I can't believe people expect actual facts from YT, FB, and TT.
Totally misleading. While Sheets is free (including Docs) there are features not available on Google that are in O365 or Office 2021.
Besides, O365 isn't free. There's a crippled and impotent version you can use via web browser if you have a Outlook (Hotmail) account.

Microsoft doesn’t say these are legit. It is well known you are just paying someone else who stole the cheese and is just passing you the cheese under a price so you feel like you bought it fair and square.
Also flip flopping to why certain big business doesn’t get shut down or deemed illegal has nothing to do with the morality of stealing. Law =/= ethics. If someone gets a free pass doing something shady by a lawmaker, my conscience still doesn’t see it as correct.
You are taking a licence meant for someone else whether organization or another country, so justify all you want but you are still stealing mr. fancy pants.

Not exactly, you are buying a license from most likely a non profit / school license that is CHEAPER than a public license or bought with a stolen credit card...then being resold to you for profit.IslandDeal wrote: ↑ I don't see it like that. Not the same as Costco buying a LEGIT publicly available product made for the U.S. and selling it in Canada. Costco isn't buying things priced/destined for non profit or schools and then selling it to you for cheaper. They would get sued to hell.
There is a reason why this is $30 and not $169 (for a once legit license of Office 2021 directly from Microsoft).

Most people are buying volume license keys that are part of the subscription for the organization paying for the volume license, Microsoft gets nothing.IslandDeal wrote: ↑ I don't see it like that. 'Grey Market' goods are a completely different thing. Those are physical items sold outside of the designated geographical area, and therefore do not have warranty support. Nothing is 'stolen' in that case, manufacturer was still paid for the item. In some cases they might have been paid a little less then had they sold in the local market, but we're talking 10 or maybe 20%, and you have to remember that without warranty support the manufacturers cost is lower.
These keys being sold for 1/10 the retail cost are a completely different animal.
People can justify it all they want, but there is no fundamental difference between using one of these keys, or using a keygen/activator, it's piracy either way, except you're paying the pirate for the privilege to pirate, which just makes zero sense to me.

30% off annual sub to Office 365, no stand alone office available to purchase anymore pushing the subscription model on everyone. MS has gutted the program and it is a terrible value compared to what it was.
