Gas Stove - Need a licensed professional to uninstall old stove and install new one?

Current GE gas stove is on the blink after 17yrs. Need to get it replaced and thinking of going with a Bosch 800 series from Home Depot / Lowes. They do offer free delivery and haul away for the time being, but was wondering, are the people doing the delivery/haul away are they licensed to uninstall old stove from the gas line to haul away and connect the gas line for the new stove?

Or did I need another 3rd party professional licensed gas installer to get it "installed"? in ONT if it matters.

Thanks for any info from 1st time home owner.

In Ontario technically yes, however it's illegal to operate the appliance until your work has been inspected by a licensed professional or the utility. I know of zero professionals willing to hang a tag for less than it would have cost for them to install it.

Owner And User Responsibilities
4. (1) An owner or user of an appliance or work to whom notice has been given under section 6 or 7 that it is in an unacceptable condition constituting an immediate hazard shall not use, or cause or permit to be used, the appliance or work until the condition has been corrected and a distributor has determined on reinspection that the condition has been corrected.

(2) An owner or user of an appliance or work to whom notice has been given under section 6 or 7 that the appliance or work is in an unacceptable condition not constituting an immediate hazard shall not use, or cause or permit to be used, the appliance or work after the expiry of the period of time specified in the notice for correcting the condition, if the condition has not been corrected.

(3) An owner or user of an appliance, equipment, a work or any other thing employed in the handling or use of natural gas shall ensure that they are maintained in a safe operating condition. O. Reg. 546/96, s. 4.

5. (1) This section applies if a person who is exempted from section 14 of the Act installs an appliance or works on an installed appliance in his or her own detached dwelling.

(2) The person shall promptly notify the gas distributor after he or she completes the installation or work.

(3) The gas distributor shall inspect the installation or work to determine whether it complies with the requirements of the Act and regulations.

(4) A person referred to in subsection (1) shall not activate an appliance or work installed or serviced by him or her until a holder of a valid certificate has determined that the appliance or work and its installation comply with this Regulation.

(5) In subsection (4),

“serviced” does not include the carrying out of routine maintenance. O. Reg. 546/96, s. 5.
At the bottom of the Act the utility inspection process fee is set at $120/hour with a minimum charge of one hour.

correct me if im wrong but a gas stove is not "hard wired" into your house it has a hose with a quick connect sleeve and there should also be a shut off for emergency use. its not much different than plugging in a natural gas barbeque into the pipe in your backyard? i dont get why someone needs a licensed gas guy to do this for you? your NOT installing the gas line over again your simply unplugging an appliance and plugging it back, no?

i think you're putting too much faith into people. I can imagine people trying to disconnect without shutting off, or people re-connecting but the connection isn't airtight (like a loose garden hose spilling at the spigot)

Right or wrong, it’s safety we should be concern with.

Gas barbecue is outside, gas stove is inside. People breaths, if is not done right with license gas pro, there may be gas leak in the house. People breath with it or it goes kaboom.

Systems that can either blow my house up (natural gas) or burn it down (electrical) I generally leave to the pros.

Its not a quick connect as on a BBQ, its a flex hose (usually yellow) threaded on. I think only a gas tech can re-use those flex hoses if he deems it ok....at least thats what a gas fitter told me when he was installing a gas dryer.

Only see quick connects in commercial kitchens, even if you have a quick connect you need to swap over the quick connect connector...
Stainless steel gas connector "hose" cannot be reused and must be replaced

I’m sure other manufacturers would have the same requirement.
yup... most stringent between B149 and manufacturers instructions prevails... nothing in the code other than that though
