Gas water heater on extension cord?

I had to cut the circuit my water tank is on for a few days, is there any risk in running a heavy duty extension cord to an outlet that still works for that period of time?

Assuming a gas water heater, no issues. Doesnt draw that much power for fan and electronics.

It's a powervent gas heater then? Extension should be fine, just confirm that the one you use can handle the current draw of the vent motor.

*edit*, it's against code so do at your own risk, even if it's low. Could risk insurance denial.
