This a good alternative? http://www.********.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_354314.htmlaasoror wrote: ↑These should be cheap (they were released at $30 IIRC), not much going for the RK3229 (when it comes to community development), pay few extra dollars and get an s905 instead.

Personally I wouldn't go 2GB on s905 (given your usage scenario or if you intend to move to a pure linux build).wackojacko wrote: ↑Question for the pros, how important is 1GB vs. 2GB for RAM. I mostly download SD TV shows but the some in HD. I'll have this hard wired to my router with a PC acting as my "server" hardwired as well.
Like aasoror's suggested models but just wonder if the $11 CAD is needed. also would be using KODI and streaming with Shomi.

Thanks for the tips.aasoror wrote: ↑Personally I wouldn't go 2GB on s905 (given your usage scenario or if you intend to move to a pure linux build).
But I would certainly pay $3 more and get the 1GB/s905, as JamesA1 noted the RK3229 has its own issues but most importantly its not endorsed by the dev community, so chances are you are stuck with stock firmware (or some simple derivatives) for good.

These boxes fluctuate like crazy on Amazon (another s905/1GB box was $40 just yesterday), buying from amazon doesn't only give you quick delivery but 30 days to stress test the box and return it if found defective.wackojacko wrote: ↑Thanks for the tips.
Found this one on amazon.ca, appears to be about $10 more than ******** but delivers by next week from amazon. Weird though not HST added by Amazon.

Is there a list of channels we can get with such a box? Do I get AMC, HBO for free?aasoror wrote: ↑These boxes fluctuate like crazy on Amazon (another s905/1GB box was $40 just yesterday), buying from amazon doesn't only give you quick delivery but 30 days to stress test the box and return it if found defective.
taxes on products "fulfilled (but not sold)" by amazon will vary depending on the actual seller tax profile.
same box $1 less: https://www.amazon.ca/RBSCH-MXQ-TV-Loll ... 01D8JOW7Q/

You don't get anything for free, but if you are ok with piracy then you need to take the discussion elsewhere
