german cars aren't that bad after all?

so im biting my tongue and saying this, seems like german cars aren't all that bad. I just keep getting unlucky is what i think. Friend bought a 2012 audi Q5 with 190km, now has 210k on it. NO problems at all. Another person i know bought a 2010 MERCEDES ML with 180k, now got 230k on it. Same thing no problems at all, my s550 has been good for a while now.
Anyone else here with high km german cars? would like to say something? Im posting this because on here people like to think german cars blow up after 80k. im such a hypocrite, but i believe they are just as reliable as others.

I'll come help you! I have a 2009 335i (supposedly the worse BMW car for reliability) and it's at a young age of 124k km's.

German cars are reliable. They are just expensive to maintain and do not take well to negligience. Gotta pay to play.

Just as with people, German cars fare best when exercised hard. Helps to keep everything working well. So high miles used ones are often a good bet.

Because they were depended upon, they likely had conscientious maintenance and pre-emptive replacement of critical parts.

It's the low miles mall trip ones that tend to present problems to their new owner who is expecting a next-to-new car mechanically but it's anything but.

2013 328 xDrive (56k): 4/6 injectors replaced at 30k. One injector recently replaced at 55k. Other than that, just maintenance, some rattles...

The issue with German is the cost of when they do fail... You could be talking thousands of dollars in repairs, whereas I wouldn't expect to see that kind of a repair bill with Japanese cars.

Aside from warranty issues, it's been pretty reliable. Only thing out of product was the waterpump which I expected. The warranty changes were the HPFP which everyone knew, and injectors. Just due the maintenance and drive the car hard and it'll treat you well. Driving it hard may seem like a bad idea, but it helps clear out the carbon in the intakes and it's built for it. Cars that are mainly city driven below 100km'h most of the time are the ones you see with problems.

1999 A4 here, 165k on the odo (previous owner like didn't drive and I live near work). Work I've had done was mostly tie rods, wheel bearings and the alternator I had to replace last year. Drivetrain-wise though it's been fairly solid.

I would tend to agree with prototypev, it's not so much the unreliability of German cars so much as it's the expensive labor/parts (relative to Asian brands) that tends to put off consumers.
