Worth noting, much like the title of the game suggests, this is the bare-bones single player campaign only version. No multiplayer or skirmish.

Fine for me, I never have the time to play multiplayer!
I had so much time before having kids.
Maybe when I will retire in 30 years, I will play the hundreds game I have in stock!!

Where does the download file get saved to so that I can keep it as a backup?

Also, I hate that it does not ask you where to install the game because I do not want it on my boot drive partition

As with everything installed from the App Store, it goes into your Applications folder. You can drag/drop it out of there to wherever you'd like and it should still work fine.
