Rexall, sometimes SDM, buy X get $10, it's a coupon and it expires fast
It is a proper GC they take it off the rack and scan it with the purchase. Note that my local Tiger did not even know about the promo for some reason..... took a while but got a manager to figure it out.

Not sure if this is isolated but at 7/11 you can not buy Vanilla cards with credit

Their system allows. It is up to each store or cashier to make their policy. My local 7-11 does allow.

I know it doesn't answer your question directly about TD Visa, but if I'm right that it was a merchant code change by GT then it should count as grocery for you too.
Good news ... especially if it's like that Canada Wide now.

In the past I know for sure GT wasn't a grocery merchant (I tested it).

I have infinite cash back Visas for Scotiabank, TD and CIBC ... just called all 3 of them ... and none of them know nothing about this, lol ...

The best would be to try on my own ... and find out for sure.

Meanwhile when I tried Google about it -- I see that GT is coming out with they own Loyalty program .. GT VIP ... it's only available in Ontario for now .. but should go nation-wide some time next year ... They have an app for it etc ... :)

Here is some info about it:
