Wanted to revisit this posting to update my experience.
Firstly, I did the two things I advised in my OP - I tightened the top turning mechanism w/ a hex key as it was quite loose, and I also teflon taped and tightened the part which joins the base and the top.
Ran it for about 2 hrs in blazing hot sun, full 360 sprinkle (sorry, I don't need to limit the spray angle) and it worked like a champ. Almost went and bought a second to water a different part of my lawn but realized I would need another hose! Hopefully dollarama to the rescue w/ a cheap 25-50ft hose soon??? :) :)

Mine stopped after a few days and wouldnt obey the spray limits. The 360 should be no problem, but the not being able to set the boundaries ruins it for me.
Picked up $15 rain wave adjustable angle one from Home depot and thats worked without a hitch since.
