Any that people would recommend for a beginner. I am a leftie and plan on going to the driving range occasionally.

Cheers fellow leftie. They usually design courses to challenge those right handers.

Don’t think at a beginner stage your clubs matter much. Drive for show putt for dough. I’d buy a good putter at some point but when starting out entry level clubs are just fine.

The driving range is good. However you should just start playing crappy par 3 so you get a feel for the game. Trying to smack a driver to get Max distance is fun and all but you only take out your driver what 12-14 times per proper 18 hole championship course.

Spend time around the chipping green. Sure you can practice other clubs at a range but using your irons in real grass is something. The range won’t simulate. Unless they have a real grass chopping green (usually only found at better courses)

Group golf lessons are great. Not sure how the COVID rules impact this but angus glen has an affordable group lesson package and they let you out on the course once later in your sessions that seals the deal on value.

Most important is to get out there and play. Crappy par 3 are the best (and likely no bag checks )

Markham executive golf course which was closed for a year due to previous owners death is a great place to get out and very liberal on byob at least they used to be

Bring lots of balls don’t be that guy slowing down the course looking for your crappy recycled balls :p

Don’t forget to play proper championship length courses once you get a feel for irons.

Unfortunately not anymore. I too learned on the old course (used to be called Cresthaven) which was a fairly challenging par 3 for a newbie. The new owners have jacked up the prices 30% and the course is more or less exactly the same as it was before. Definitely not BYOB friendly anymore though you can always try sneaking it in.

Do most GTA courses really do bag checks? At my course people return their carts full of empties that the course doesn’t even sell. I’m not a huge golf drinker but if I plan on having more than 1 or 2 I’ll throw a few in a mini cooler.

Taylormade RBZ drivers kill it for the price.
I keep one in my bag along with a Callaway Mavrik Max (expensive) and half the time I go back to the RBZ.
I tested it on the simulator at golftown just before covid against 4 other clubs and it still came out 2nd place (only by a few yards).
of course, everyone is different so YMMV, but its a good starting point.

I believe the list is identical from Golf Avenue. I am not sure if it's changed but Golf town's trade-in and preowned is partnered with Golf Avenue. You will get cheaper price buying directly from Golf avenue with using their coupon and promos.
