Good hard drive for Rogers PVR

My current 2TB WD Green crapped out and need a new hard drive to connect to my Rogers Nextbox PVR. Which one is good? I believe CMR will be better. Any specific models? Thanks.

Considering the drive runs 24/7 something like a WD purple PVR drive or red NAS drive might end up being slightly more reliable over a longer term. Seems doubtful it's worth the extra cost vs a basic drive given the temporary nature of PVR recordings. Also some models I've read only support 2TB drives or will only format the drive as 2TB even if you install a larger one, so it's best to check into that specifically if you're thinking of getting a larger drive.

Seagate Skyhawk surveillance drives are CMR and work very well.

I have a 2TB drive in a 9865 and a 1TB in a an older 8642. Been running for about 2 years without issue.

Too expensive for 2TB.

Does someone have a link or FAQ on how to change the hard drive on these? Didn't even know you could do this. Does the drive need to be formatted in a certain way?

You'll at least need a T10 torx security bit for the screws. These are one's with the hole in the middle of the bit.

Then head on over to the forums at digitalhome.ca . There's plenty of how-to threads for all the PVRs in the Rogers forums.
