[Google.com] Free Nest Cam from Dropcam YMMV

Expiry:
May 7, 2023
Retailer:

More offers from Google.com
Got this email from google regarding "Important: An update on your Dropcam", basically they're stopping support to Dropcam as of April 8, 2024. So they're giving our free Nest Cam if you have Dropcams, up to maximum two per household.

I had one dropcam on file and scooped another second hand, was able to redeem for the one on file and talking to support about the other.

Key notes for the redemption:
- Offer only applies to Nest Cam (indoor, wired)—Snow colour only. Limit of one redemption per home, for up to two (2) devices based on eligibility
- Dropcams have to be active in the 28 days prior to this notice
- users must be subscribed to Nest Aware on the date of this notice
- Offer must be redeemed by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on May 7, 2024, or it will expire

Dumb question: without google supporting the product, I can just use it as a live cam I assume? What's the other potential impact?

I guess not everyone gets two free cams, they are offering me 50% off on a new cam. Might need something to do with what your Drop Cam model is? Here's a part of email that I got:

"We know this is inconvenient and fully understand that changing the technology in your home is hard. To help with this transition and show our appreciation, we're offering you a 50% discount toward Nest Cam (indoor, wired).1 This wired Nest Cam is part of our next generation of cameras with more helpful features like HDR and built-in intelligence that can differentiate between a person, an animal and a vehicle, and send you an alert. We hope you'll continue to trust us to help you at home."

i believe not. since it is cloud based and google is killing the cloud service, your device won't have anyone to talk to.

At least they are doing something. When iHome stopped supporting my sensors - it was 'tough crap' and they offered nothing. This is a risk now ongoing that cloud services will only be offered so long.

i've got the regular model, not the dropcam pro. so im not sure what criteria they base this out of.

not sure, since the deal is for dropcam only. I believe the early nest cam looked like the dropcam, don't think those qualify. Could always check google support to find out.

I don't like the new cams, they only work with Google Home but not the Nest app. Oh well, it's better than nothing I guess.

I thought this was a no-brainer. I have a Drop Cam Pro and my free Nest Camera arrives Monday.

I received the same email, but they only offered me 50% on a new Nest Cam. I am not subscribed to Nest Aware.

They do not qualify. The Dropcams are much older. Before Google purchased Dropcam.
