I have a D-Link system that can be set up without an app/account, but it's last generation. However that's one sign of a cloud-free option.

Yeah $179 for one wifi 5 device is expensive. I am waiting for wifi 6 tri-band to go down in price

very capable for the ones that are not tech savvy or want a plug in play device.
have all my iot and media devices connected with a 100mbps Virgin internet and have great experience with playing wireless VR using Oculus Quest 2 as far as the next adjacent room.

Totally ridiculous to buy a router from companies like Google/Apple/Amazon etc. And that too for 200$. Just buy an Asus or TP Link. They both have consumer grade AX routers under 200.
