I read that in order to have Gcam installed you need a phone with the Camera2 API enabled. Most newer phones should have this support but in some cases it can be added by a custom rom or from a recovery environment.

Not sure if that's what is being assumed here, or if there is some other APK which is more compatible.

GCAM doesn't work on all phones that support Camera2 API. I'm not sure why that is though. But for most popular alternatives that contain the API, it works.

IMO software is pretty damn important.
I have FAR too many devices nowadays that are stuck on something like Android 4/5/6/7 but would be perfectly fine otherwise (obviously for low end work)
Hell even my Galaxy Tab S2 is only "officially" supported to 7 and it's my daily driver.

Treble fixes this to some extent but it also has quirks.

I had to look twice but damn that mosquito looks pretty damn good.

Picked this up a month or two after launch when they had buy one get one 50% off. Feels good to see this and see almost a year later it's still the same price on sale.

That last 3 weeks...

In other words: normal price is way too high so with the rebate, you just get what the price should be (or close to). I even suspect that google is doing the canadian tire and the bay strategy: inflated prices with disount to give you the illusion you're making a deal...
Pourquoi pas?
