Looks like the last Chrome update will be in Feb. Which web browser is recommended instead, simple to use and secure for a senior still using Win 8.1?

How about just upgrading to windows 10? Upgrade should be free. Alot of people say Windows 10 perform well on Windows 8.1 machines.

Seems like the majority of Chromium browsers are choosing to end support, including Edge and even Brave. (I was going to recommend Brave). Firefox is planning to end support in 2023 as well but no set date. Waterfox might continue to support Windows 8.1 with security updates, you could look into that. There is also Pale Moon. I believe Opera as well still working on Windows 7+ and doesn't plan to end support, yet. 3 off the top of my head I can think of that might still offer security patches for Windows 8.

But I agree with @coilz that upgrading to W10 would be best bet. No real learning curve coming from Windows 8.1, except a much better Start Menu.
