Unfortunately, Samsung's interpretation of Android is known to break some apps...

ok, I'm not even a Samsung fanboy, but don't go there.

This 'Total Media Player Pro' app was last updated on November 2, 2016. So if something is going to break, I'll put my money on the 2 1/2 year old app with old APIs and bugs.

Got a link?
I assume it's also free since you're commenting on a thread about a free music player

Wi-Fi connection information
view Wi-Fi connections

Device ID & call information

Other

allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception
full network access
change your audio settings
control vibration
prevent device from sleeping
Google Play license check

But this method doesn't work with a tomato...

Can you trust the app's developer? Or is this just an opportunity for the app to read files on your devices?

That entirely depends on the features you need/use.. Look if any of the options this player has [some are listed in the OP] works for you and if KMPlayer lacks it..
[like subs search, playing cloud media, taking snapshot of streaming videos, Chromcasting...]

Which exact permissions look "crazy" to you compared to the list of features this app supports??

Edit: Serious question..!

Don't ever blindly trust anyone.

That said, this app is around for at least 3-4 years, so it should be known if something is wrong already...
