UPDATE: GoPro Hero 8 25% off YMMV

Price:
299
Savings:
25%
Retailer:
GoPro.com
Update, chat and phone support is now providing 25% off discount codes if you inquire about the trade up program!

update #2 Recieved my hero 8 black on Friday using the 25% discount from GoPro customer service. As expected no tax or duty (this is the 3 or 4th GoPro i have now ordered direct from them and I have never had additional costs)

Final cost in Canadian dollars after exchange on my MasterCard $419 hot hot hot!

GoPro is offering the trade up program again on the hero 8 black. I took advantage of this last year by using cross boarder pickup as my shipping address. This year It cost me $8 for small packet air to ship an old dash camera in for trade using Canada post, last year I sent in an old SJCam using the provided ups label although it was a huge hassles with ups due to no custom clearance docs and delayed the delivery by 2 weeks so this year it's well worth the $8 with Canada Post

They used to be the benchmark for action cameras, now this must be their way to stay relevant. If it wasn't for all the accessories I've invested in, I would of ditched them long ago. 0.02

What would be you're choice now? I've been thinking about a hero 7 on black Friday but maybe should consider something else.

$299 = Roughly $402 CAD after fx fee
Aren't there better options for $402 CAD?

Picked up a DJI Osmo Action for $399 (reg $469) at Best Buy.

This is the best GoPro competitor right now. It's gone to $399 several times though.

Their new Hypersmooth (whatever they call it) 2.0 is supposed to be REALLY good though.. A step above the Osmo Action. That one is closer to the Gopro 7. Note, that the Action has 2 screens though for people vlogging w the action cams.

DJI Osmo Action is a decent alternative. A recent firmware update resolves some issues especially the live display lag, still not perfect yet much more tolerable from what I've seen.

I purchased the Hero 7 Black Edition not all that long ago for $27 CAD more than the Hero 8 is going for with trade-in ( approx $402CAD). Bought too many accessories to make it worth my while upgrading at this time, and we're very happy with 7's overall performance. Also not keen on 8's now non-replaceable lens amongst other things. Maybe after the hype of the 8 dies down GoPro will see fit in issuing a firmware update to the seven enabling some of the new features, wishful thinking I know.

Any GoPro or digital camera with an original retail value of at least $99.99 USD is eligible for trade-in.

Awesoe thank you. The lens, mount arms and price are the main reasons I've decided on sticking with the 7 as well. I'll check out the osmo next time I'm near a best buy as well. Thanks.
