Got a ticket. Will it affect insurance?

I got a ticket sunday morning for not wearing a seatbelt in the backseat of my friend's car for $110  . If I'm found guilty (eg. pay the fine / lose in court) will it raise my insurance? My friends and I are debating.

Does the driver of the car also get a ticket when someone isn't wearing a seatbelt in the backseat?

Not unless that person is under 16 years of age.

'Seat belt - Failure to wear' is a minor conviction as far as insurance is concerned. Most companies won't surcharge your rates unless you have 2 or 3 minor convictions. So it depends on your situation and your insurance company.

Were you given the ticket or the driver? Because as a passenger not sure the policy can demand your license? You might not even have a license if you are a passenger? So this probably applies only to the driver. In any case, it definitely does count and it counts against whoevers drivers license has the offense.

omg.. you got a ticket for not wearing seatbelt in the backseat?!
damn you are so unlucky. police offers probably give those out 1 out of 1000000000cars they pull over for.

go get a note from a doctor saying you had such such condition on your chest that day so you can't wear seatbelt.
internal pain

lol...the internal pain caused by wearing a seatbelt is nothing compared to the external pain caused when your skull smashes into the skull of the person in front of you.

Anyway, a quick google search found a possible answer to your question:
- Driving convictions, including seatbelt infractions, can affect
insurance rates for individual drivers. A seat belt or child seat
offence carries a $90 fine (plus a $20 victim surcharge) and two
demerit points.

Hopefully you can get the charge dropped in court or else it looks like you're stuck learning the lesson the hard way.

wow the cops were really bored or didn't like you cause the odds of getting a ticket for not wearing rear seatbelt are worse then winning 649  ........i never wear rear seat seatbelts, only when the car is going on the highway.

probably a crackdown due to the accident were passengers got thrown out of the minivan and died (3 died in that accident)

the issue was more passengers than the amount of seatbelts in the car.

A $110 ticket is learning the easy way. The hard way would to be in a collision while not buckled up in the backseat.

Is there anything differentiating this ticket from a ticket given to you if you were the driver? If not, then you're out of luck. In the insurance company's eyes, your habit of not wearing a seatbelt will also apply when you are the driver (after all, you must definitely trust yourself with your life when behind the wheel since you've already trusted someone else).

I recently got a ticket for having expired license plates...it was my own idiocy, I had already got the new sticker but forgot to put them on. So got the fine lowered, but do you think it'll affect insurance?

If this ticket is a moving violation, then it depends on your insurance company. Calling them to check, however, will only tip them off, so not recommended.

I can only speak as far as Alberta insurance regulations. Not wearing a seat belt will not affect your insurance. Same with expired plates.
Dont know how much difference there is between provinces.

Couldn't the guy in the back buckle up before the cop approached?
Cops aren't superman...they can't know for sure if the guy wasn't wearing safety belt unless he was leaning forward or something especially in a moving vehicle or they're right beside you.
