Greece vacation

Anyone been to Greece and have recommendations? I like the sunbathing and all, but what about places to see, other than Athens? I've been in Thessaloniki before so that is one city I won't be visiting.

Anyone has a website similar to japan-guide for Greece?

Leaving in 2 weeks on 19 Apr, going to participate in the Othrodox Easter there as well, coming back mid late May.

I did enjoy Santorini and Mykonos. Santorini is absolutely beautiful. Get a villa if you go there (plenty of deals)

You sure you can enter? Canada government site looks like its not possible to enter.

"Travellers arriving from Canada are not allowed entry to Greece. However, certain travellers may be allowed entry if they can prove the essential nature of their travel."

Looks like they are under a lockdown as well.

Lucky you.

I loved my vacation to Athens. The Weather was very nice. One little complaint was there are no beaches in Athens itself, you need a bus ride. Parthenon was Amazing, Temple of Hercules. The culture was amazing.

The food in Greece is Amazing, Everything I tried Pizza, Beer, soft drinks (This is a thing in Greece), Ice Cream were all Amazing. But the one disappointment, ironically, was the Greek food. Everything drenched in Olive Oil. Salads do not have lettuce. I know a true Greek salad does not have it. The Souvlaki tasted a little funny to me. The Greek food in Toronto is the best I ever eat.

Thanks for the input. Any other places that are worth going other than Athens? I will be driving, so anywhere on the mainland is a go.

I only spent 2 days in. Athens. It was in august well before covid and the city look abandoned with only a few grocery stores open and restaurants and bars in the tourist or beach areas.

Had a blast at “nalu” all day cafe which is really a beach club especially at night if you like good house music. A bottle of vodka is like 80 euros with mixer. However they charge 8-12 euros a drink so if you plan to drink and have a buddy bottles the way to go. I tipped 15% and the server was so grateful she hung out with me for like an hour. I was solo.

Here are tips my Athens based friend (who was on the islands at the time as she said all Athens people are) this was alll 2019 not sure how Covid + Greek other economic problems have impacted them. However these are true local suggestions. Albeit I’m sure she keeping me out of the bad areas.

Be very careful on the subway out of the airport. I’ve never seen such blatant pick pockets out and about. Im alone in empty subway and 4 old dudes get on and sit next to me. I laughed at them and told em to F off. Yeah 4 old dudes decide to sit down next to a backpacker coming from airport on an empty train. When I arrived at my hostel. A British woman was picked clean on the subway. Including her passport. I’ve travelled, lived and am from Europe. I’ve never seen such blatant pick pocketing.

Dual citizen with EU citizenship = I can go
"Residents from EU+ countries are allowed to travel to Greece. EU+ consists of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland.
Residents of Australia, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, UAE and United Kingdom are also allowed to travel to Greece.

Permanent residents of other countries are allowed to travel to Greece only for essential travel."

According to that even though you have EU citizenship, if it's not Greek citizenship you can't enter as you're not an EU permanent resident. That being said, having an EU passport is likely enough to make then wave it through.

Ahh cool. Well hopw whatever you want to do is open. Quick Google search told me they under a essential only lockdown. So restaurants and tourist attractions might be closed. The islands would be a normal choice for sunbathing, no idea if the weather is warm enough for that yet. I thought the main season for the islands was may to Sept
Good luck!

I will be entering Greece with my EU member national ID card. No passport required.

Thanks a lot. I will be driving all the time, so that will make it easier. I'm very interested in sight seeing, so that's what I'll be concentrating on.
