This is not a reset of the clock. The bacteria remains but is inactive until unfrozen. Which means the meat should be cooked asap after it is unfrozen.PointsHubby wrote: ↑ Expiry / Best Before Dates …
Refer to the date that something is best consumed by in its FRESH STATE LIFE
Once you freeze it …
You extend that life
So the clock starts again for it’s FROZEN STATE LIFE

As others said, if it was frozen and stayed frozen prior to 'Best Before' you are fine to eat. Depending on the freezer and how it was wrapped, it could be months after. I have food frozen for a couple years with no problems. Some are a bit freezer burnt but no health issues.

Reset the clock … maybe not the best choice of words

And the mere act of defrosting can cause more harm as well.
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet

Depending on the shape of the object, a few days defrosting may put a questionable thing into spoilage territory.
Even worse when things are thawed unsafely like on the counter.
This is also why when freezing things they should be in a single layer or as flat as possible.
A lump of ground beef will take a few days to defrost vs a sheet.

True, but only true if it's good before it's frozen.PointsHubby wrote: ↑ And best to always plan ahead and defrost in the fridge
Really? I'd take cold running water over a microwave.Second best … but still potentially problematic to some extent
Quick defrost in the microwave
And cook IMMEDIATELY
Not recommended …
But people still do it …
Defrost in a sink of cold running water
I know home ec is a thing, but it's not mandatory by any stretch.Safe food handling is something everyone should learn more about
It’s for your own safety … and fewer upset tummies
And it can literally be a matter of life & death for those who have weaker immune systems
Including the very young & very old
Babies, kids, the elderly etc
