Has anyone added their own Qi Charging pad *internally*?

Just ordered the parts necessary and want to attempt this. The Mi A1 feels really well put together so I don't know how step two will go with just that prying tool. Will it definitely require adding new adhesives? The video doesn't show any but I can't I imagine it being just nothing but two small screws on the bottom.

I can't tell from that video whether the rear cover is hard or soft. If it's soft, give it a try. If it's hard, you run the risk of having the charging receiver take up any of the battery's thermal expansion space. That could be dangerous.

I installed an aftermarket wireless charging receiver on my phone by using a stick-on credit card holder on the outside of the rear cover. I simply cut a small slit at the lower end to let the ribbon cable with electric plug pass through. This has the added benefit of leaving me able to disconnect the charger and use a conventional cable, since the credit card holder will allow the wireless receiver to move around a bit.

Here's how the external receiver in credit card holder looks...

From what I gathered from the comments, the back cover on the Mi A1 is very fragile and prone to bending. Some brave souls have attempted it and now are looking for replacements so it doesn't bold well for someone like me who's all thumbs when it comes to stuff like this.

Very cool. But why not step up the game slightly and get a Moto Z series, then attach the battery mod (2nd gen or newer) to enable wireless charging? Moto Z² Play already only $470 outright at Videotron, and I'm sure dual-sim variants will go down in price if they haven't already.

I'm sure there are other phones that allow swapping out the back cover to enable wireless charging, or some through a specialized case.

I'd imagine that credit card holder hack must be cost-effective.

I can use this aftermarket modification with almost any phone, so there is no need limit my choices to one or two models. I certainly looked at the Z and its add-ons, but I preferred to stick with flexibility and a good mid-range phone.

Frankly, I am disappointed with how wireless charging went from a good mid-range feature (on, for example, the Nexus 4) to being a flagship one. I prize the quality of discreetness in a phone. One should not have it be obvious in a trouser or jacket pocket. What I really wanted was an up-to-date successor to the Nexus 4 and original Moto G. The G5 Plus was the closest that I could get, though it's bigger than comfortable. Frankly, if it weren't for the need to occasionally detach the aftermarket wireless receiver, I'd have kept the solution thinner by just taping it to the rear cover instead using the credit card holder.

Yes, receiver and holder are each under USD$10.
