Has anyone ordered from probikekit.ca? UK based seller

So with all this pandemic, I decided to upgrade my existing bike instead but I’m in need of new parts. So I was wondering if anyone has purchased from them before? Can you share your experience?

Thanks

https://www.probikekit.ca/

Update:

They are great, good customer service albeit slow shipping and delayed deliveries. I’m guessing COVID19 is to blame like everything these past 2 years.

Wheels showed up but Tires never made it but reshipped it, waiting for the tires ATM.

Never had a problem with PBK (or Chain Reaction or Evan's Cycles or Merlin; basically all the UK based guys). Since the pandemic all of their shipping is a bit longer and more expensive (and most of them ship from Spain...cheaper rates). Only once or twice in 20 or so orders have I been tagged for duties.... and somethings are still legit cheaper even with duty (tires in particular)

Thanks for the reply! But I think they are different companies.

However, I do find that online you find a ton of bad reviews on PBK which made me leery about placing my order ~ $600

Hopefully they are still ok, they have the best price by far and mixed reviews at the moment

No issues here either. And the main cycling thread in the Sports section, I see many forum members there also happy with their PBK experience.

Make sure you do your research on this company! I was looking at some Oakley Sunglasses the other day that were priced super cheap (half of the regular price) and very quickly came across multiple different pages of reviews and warnings about the site. All kinds of extra shipping/duties/fees and all kinds of customer service complaints. You'll have to figure out based on what you are ordering whether or not all the extra fees are worth it or not.

Thanks for this warning. It does look like a very scummy site that is disguised as a domestic Canadian company with the .ca URL, currency in CAD, and shipping for my test order at $20. There is no indication at all that they will be sourcing items from outside Canada and stiffing me with import fees, duties, taxes, and brokerage when I receive the item. It's only when I scroll down and click International Delivery (why would I think to click there for what is disguised as a domestic order) to learn:

Canada
Standard tracked delivery:
- £4.99 on orders up to £80
- £12.99 on orders over £80
Standard tracked delivery: 4-7 working days
Express tracked delivery:
- £6.99 on orders up to £85
- £12.99 on orders over £85
Express tracked delivery: 2-3 working days
Bulky items: from £26.99
Please note that we ship from the UK and all orders will have to pass through customs, which may incur additional charges & fees

The fact that they DON'T CHARGE GST on my order is a huge red flag. Even if the prices are worth it after paying ripoff brokerage fees I still wouldn't order from this company. Scammers.

yup - I initially thought the site was a great find and the .ca is definitely misleading...as the old saying goes: if it seems too good to be true it probably is!

I’m glad I found people that liked their experience, many mixed reviews online

Yeah I’m definitely getting dinged and I know they are from UK. But the savings outweigh the customs and duties. HOWEVER, I’m still leery since they may send me the wrong product

I ordered gp5000s two times last year. No issues and no duties so luck of the draw but legit from my experience

Did you get ding by custom and brokerage fees?

I had been buying from them for couple of years, they're great and price is unbeatable. I did come across the following product review, the person said they've changed their courier/broker which makes me worry.
https://www.probikekit.ca/bicycle-tyres ... 64116.html

BTW, I stopped buying from chainreactioncycles since they have SkyNetWorldwideExpress as their new broker/shipper. Shipment takes a long time and you're guaranteed to be charged for duty+tax+brokerage fee. To make things worse, they hold your parcel and don't give you option to clear custom by yourself and they threaten to send back your package at your cost if you don't pay up.

Yes I did albeit lower $10 and HST 13%.

They shipped with Fedex which handed off to Canada post

Too many times. Even before they got bought out

Not sure how they conduct business nowadays but they always have good deals on tires especially Continental
