"It also says that the unauthorized product is suspected to contain methanol, which is not authorized for use in hand sanitizers and could cause severe adverse reactions or death when ingested."

Stores are littered with sanitizers but no rush or panic to buy....it makes price dropping faster lolz
Many stores use diluted sanitizer that is virtually useless, or sanitizers that smell extremely bad and are next to impossible to wash off. Thanks but no thanks...I'll use my own.

The genuine product was approved. This is a counterfeit version of that product. I highly doubt the counterfeiters will submit their knock-off product to Health Canada for inspection, lol.

Not going to lie, the first time I saw one of those things in Walmart, I completely missed the foot pump. For some reason, I thought the metal bar at the top was to prevent people from jacking the whole bottle... Finally saw a video on Youtube that had somebody using the foot pump before I realized I'm actually an idiot.
I'm sure we'll meet again, in some nostalgic place...

They make the diluted one because the ingredient that makes it jelly like is more expensive now due to demand and also low supply.

I still have a few bottles of purrell from the pre-covid era. And wow.. its so thick and jelly. But doesnt leave a residue

Oh come on you know ...

It was all over the news:

And ya sadly, some people followed suit IRL

It’s not just an accidental thing ... it’s intentional use.
And has the authorities concerned ... and still issuing warnings / counter messaging

I doubt if there’s even any checking, its more of just let it go, less work for them, and/or could be lazy employees or incompetence

There has been an update to this recall.
Apparently this product is not counterfeit but actually improper manufacturing (company used methanol in place of ethanol and/or did not have sufficient % of ethanol as per the label) and a number of GMP violations such as "poor record keeping, lack of control of inventory, and lack of finished product testing."

Health Canada intends to revoke their license to manufacture.
Please check your hand sanitizers!
