Except for the cost you could buy another one mid way and then again one in 5 (or 15?) years.patroniton wrote: ↑ They're expensive because the build quality is worth it. Other chairs will start to deteriorate after a few years whereas Herman Miller chairs last 15+. My Aeron is about 15 years old and today it feels the same as when I got it 5 years ago.

Okay, sure. Enjoy your mediocre engineered chair. I'd rather spend the extra bit of money for industry leading technology and reputation instead of buying average garbage every few years. You do you.

There are people who are totally fine with upgrading their smartphone every other year but totally trash on an ergonomic chair that'll last more than a decade (12 year warranty) for the same price if not cheaper. Some people sit more than they sleep but why is it bad spending $1k+ on a good mattress but anything below for a chair is unheard of?
It is what it is, different stroke for different folks.

Sorry you let your emotions rule you, but a strong opposing opinion is neither uneducated not is it a "drive by hot take" just because it doesn't agree with your narrow view. I was seriously in the market for a chair and I'm looking for an optimal happy middle ground between cheap crap and overpriced cult merchandise
No, it absolutely would not. Opinions change, tastes evolve, not to mention I'd get bored with that one pair for that long. I'd rather buy 10 still excellent pairs of $200 shoes over that period. Durability isn't the only buying factor. Besides there is the issue of diminishing gains with the more you spend - there is a bell curve here in terms of ROI. Also, technology and products in general evolve. I wouldn't want to miss out because I'm committing to one overpriced product for that long
If a car that costs $800K were incredibly comfortable, healthy, ergonomic and beautiful and lasts me 40 years, does it make sense to spend all that money today on a depreciating asset?

I love how people complain about the price but are ready to dish $1400+ for cellphones...

My Embody chair just outstanding. Get up in the am back all stiff, then sink into the chair with a cuppa and just zen. Had a small issue with it, in home service took care all under warranty. Most comfortable chair I have ever owned. Certainly more so and longer lasting than a Staples Chair Event special. Get what you pay for folks.

Too bad the group buy store doesn’t sell the Eames lounge chair (at least I don’t think so). I know the employee/ corporate discounts are amazing, like sub $5k, but I just don’t have the connection.
If anyone has a hookup from an AD on an Eames LMK.
Maybe we could start an Eames group buy?
