[Canadian Tire] Hespeler Senior Hockey Skate $20

I was looking to get into skating and found these skates for $20 brand new at Cdn Tire. They won't be good if you play intense hockey or anything, but for casual skating/learning I think these would be suitable.

Stupid question. Why are these called 'Senior' skates? Can an average adult wear these?

They are adult men's skates. :)

Because these fit people aged 16 and up so not really an adult exclusive. You just need to find the right size.

But so many pointed out that they are for light use so I'm not certain how you can "lightly" skate so I would not buy these.

Can't go wrong for $20 if you only go skating two to three times a year.

In terms of size. Any way to figure out how sizing works. My regular shoes and dress shoes is a 9.5

They aren't built to last, they're good for beginners or the inexperienced who may only "pleasure" skate a few times a year.

You're probably an 8. Skates typically fit 1.5 sizes down

Description doesn't show if they are men or women's, I guess anyone can use as long they fit?

It looks so brittle that even a pleasure skate would crack the plastic part holding the blade.

My local Canadian Tire has a rack of clearance skates with prices that are not much higher than these. I recently got a pair of youth Nike Quest skates there for $32.

I tried these on (Hespeler) today. They seem to fit true to size. They seemed OK to me for a pair of recreational skates. That said I wouldn't buy them if I was playing hockey on a regular basis.

Yeah you are probably right! One slapshot off the foot and I would probably be changing out of them pretty quick... :cheesygri

Funny you say that. I had an old pair of moulded plastic skates that were over 25 yrs old. I went skating for the first time in years and the plastic just fell apart into pieces as I was skating. The skates literally fell apart underneath me with the blades coming off . I ended up breaking my wrist and long story short, ended up losing my job because of it. I haven't been skating since as I don't have any skates and was actually looking at these skates for the once in a blue moon that I go skating. I at least wanted to go back to the scene of the crime to get over any fear that I may have of skating.

Saw lots of these at Heron Rd. CT in Ottawa.

Good for canal semi use or even beginner shinny. Great price to learn to skate or find out if you like skating. Plenty of adults I've met in my 10 years in Ottawa has led me to realize not everyone has skated before.

Interesting winter bday gift!
