Dan Aykroyd is set to narrate the History series The World Without Canada, which imagines a dystopian future where Canada suddenly vanishes.
"Canadians are generally humble about the game-changing contributions and extraordinary achievements to humankind's advancements we’ve made both here and around the world,” the Ghostbusters actor said Thursday in a statement about the three-parter, which is set to debut May 31.
The World Without Canada, from Cream Productions, uses computer-generated imagery to illustrate a domino effect where Canada's wheat, oil and water is no longer available to the world, as are Canadian inventions like insulin and the alkaline battery. The result is a global meltdown and a possible World War III.
"I’m proud to be part of this entertaining and suspenseful project that unapologetically showcases these accomplishments through an eye-opening lens where Canada doesn’t exist," said Aykroyd.
The History series features commentary and warnings by Canadian experts like data scientist and futurist Juliette Powell, sci-fi author Robert J. Sawyer and historian David O’Keefe.
