HO Scale Model Trains........

My husband's interest in model train layouts has revived! We mounted an 8' X 4' piece of plywood and rigid foam board to sit atop a standard folding table.

We're just starting out, but here's an engine pulling some wheat hoppers. The cars represent different communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The blue car at the end, in lieu of a caboose, has a special flashing rear end device (light):

I like the church. Its interior light reflects nicely on the stained glass.

The lumber millwork building contains some old shims from when we were levelling our basement fridge!

The Transformer building will look better when all levels are lit up--and varied tradespeople at work.

The train station will eventually have commuters, benches.

We have much to plan for: houses, restaurants, retail outlets, offices. This is much like a wonderful train ride, the journey is great fun!

Canada, Eh!!
Please tell me he wears a conductor's hat when enjoying such an intricate hobby. :)
2022: BOC raised 8 times and MCAP raised its prime next day.
2017 to 2018: BOC raised rates 5 times and MCAP raised its prime next day each time.
2020: BOC dropped rates 3 times and MCAP waited to drop its prime to include all 3 drops.

I shared your comment with my husband, we both thank you for a good chuckle!

He enjoys the interaction with staff/customers at specialty train stores, or picking up "train stuff" locally from people who are downsizing/selling their carefully crafted collections.

You have given me something to ponder: I'll be on the lookout for a conductor's hat!

You both are very welcome.

Now... since getting a conductor's hat it is not too much of a stretch to get the pants, vest, jacket, pocket watch perhaps as yearly additions on birthdays!! :)

Very cool. I used to love “boys’ toys” like this - model trains, slot cars, plastic model kits. When my son was small I wanted to introduce him to this stuff but, alas, was shocked at how expensive these hobbies have gotten.

They were always expensive.
Though i wonder if you could now 3D print many of these items.

Back in the day parents got one where if you added sewing machine oil the train would actually have smoke puffs. They also had some authentic looking CP/CN locomotives and cars with tracks that were very difficult to put together.

Then for our kids got the plastic flexible track [like those corrugated flexible water spouts] which could be set up in many different designs and heck we even got other cars, trucks, trains that could be used on same tracks. Hours of fun.

Of course the highlight are the Thomas the tank engine tracks and trains... very expensive. Many hours of fun especially when test how far an incline the trains can go.

Kept the flexible and Thomas stuff and kids and I every so often will rummage through because better half wants us to clean the basement. Invariably we will play with for a few hours and then just can't throw any of it so keep for next basement cleaning!! :)

This was a concern for me also, as this was my second post in the Entertainment forum. I thought perhaps, it wasn't appropriate for "Entertainment" guidelines, but I am unable to locate info on any guidelines that I may have breached.

Regardless, we find this activity very entertaining. I was at the dentist yesterday, I told her we would be including a dental office as part of the train community environs--with her name on it!

Most threads garner 2-3 downvotes just for existing

Thats apparently the price the management approves of for daring to speak on RFD.

I haven't seen a model train setup in many years and am glad to see you are totally in the spirit of things.
