Got the circular saw as the free one and returned for 121. Ended up getting the set for 192 after tax in AB
Just saw this M18 promotion, but I am out of luck. Apparently its only for standard shipping and is OOS. Do you think they will honor it in store?

I did this all in store in Calgary. Just find a store that has that combo in stock and buy it in person and one of the tools. Then go to your car, throw the drills in your car and go back and return the extra tool

Edit: JUst make sure you got the right sku. There is another set that is similar but an older version of their drills that do not qualify. I did this through self checkout too btw. Promo applied without issue

Confused on actual transaction here. Did you get the m18 then get one free tool I see $299 for that set?

I bought the two drill set 18V 2900-22CT is the model number. This has a promo which you can see on the website and instore to get one of 5 free tools. The free tool is around $190. When you pay you pay $300 for the drill set + free tool. On your receipt it will show the max refund amount per item. For the $190 free tool it has a refund value of approx $120, so taht's all you get when you return it. Return that item to bring the overall cost down (unless of course you need/want the free tool)

Original deal is still on in store but online stock looks to be OOS. I see stock in Calgary at various locations for the $148 set.

Does returning the free tool raise any questions from HD staff? Since it was "free" but has a value applied to it on the receipt. I'm guessing you did it in store right after checking out?

No. I just go take the tool I am keeping out to the car and bring it in. When they ask just say I didn't want it anymore. They scan the receipt and then process it. Usually don't even look at the receipt and just scan the barcode. If you get it sent to your email you can just show them the barcode on your phone and they won't examine it at all. This has been done lots in the past by RFD'ers and people on reddit. Occasionally someone will say they wouldn't do it but you go to a different clerk or home depot and it won't be an issue.

well, its the drill set (or the battery+charger which is the combo I wanted to get actually) that is been jacked up. so the receipt spreads that original $299 across the two items. When you return the "free" tool you are bringing in the original cost to more realistic price. Milwaukee is still making a business, and the tool is being returned is still in the box, so it will be sold as new, not as a `open box` item.
