[Home Depot] Scotts Weed B Gon MAX Ready-to-Use 5L Weed Control $20

$30-50 at Lows, Rona, Home hardware, etc. seems a good deal.

Overview
Model # 0307910 Store SKU # 1001493494
It is impossible to wish lawn weeds away. The next best thing, however, is Scotts Weed B Gon MAX Ready-to-Use Weed Control with Wand Applicator. It is formulated with chelated iron for effective control of dandelion, white clover, and other unwanted lawn weeds so it KILLS WEEDS, NOT LAWNS. Plus, the convenient wand applicator lets you spray continually, for easy spot treatment of your lawn (or those pesky pop-up weeds). To use, just follow label directions, spraying weeds until thoroughly wetted. Watch susceptible weeds start to shrivel within several hours of application. Its like your wish has been granted!
Controls a range of lawn weeds, including dandelion, white clover, common chickweed, creeping buttercup and more.
Active ingredient: Iron (present as FeHEDTA) 0.25%
Susceptible weeds turn brown or black
Continuous, adjustable spray wand for easy spot treatment
5L (167.07 oz) ready-to-use formula
Noticeable results within several hours of application. Repeat treatment every 3-4 weeks if necessary

Does this stuff work? or should people just go the killex and roundup route?

It's probably last year's stock that's currently stored in your local store's garden center.

Get them to knock off another 10 percent cuz it's probably frozen....

It works but only after repeated applications. The active ingredient is just iron.

Stick with anything with 2,4-D as the active ingredient for most situations as it's a broad-based selective herbicide.

Won't make a difference to the effectiveness as the active ingredient is just iron.

I try that last summer and it's not very effective. I returned about half the jug. It didn't even touch some of the weeds period after a good soaking.
A good homebrew with vinegar and dushsoap is just as good and costs nothing.

Nope. I've been using this for years. Does not work in the long term if you have established dandelion. In the short term, kills the leaves but leaves the root untouched. So it'll just grow back. I follow a rigorous spray schedule, with spray every other day for a week. And follow up a month later. But dandelions just come back after a few month. Ended up paying hundreds of dollars for this and still have a lawn full of dandelions.

What's worse, the manufacturer has diluted the solution but renamed the product Weed B Gone "MAX" in the last year or two, and raised the price. Stay away from this.

I've heard about Killex. But some provinces ban it for home use. So check your local regulations carefully if you don't want to risk that "knock on the door". Evidence of usage is pretty easy to collect since it'll be all over your lawn and your neighbour's security camera can inadvertently film you spraying.

Personally, I've switched to the Fiskars weed puller. Get the stainless steel 4 claw model. Will run you appx $50 initially. But as long as you don't break it, it'll last many years and remove the dandelion or plantain with root. Most other weeds can be crowded out by grass itself.

I ended up get my hands on Scott's Yellow bag Weed n Feed last year with 2,4D in it, It cleaned up my yard, ended up running it twice on my yard, once in beginning and then a month and half later.

I have zero dandelions and zero clover, came from having 60-70% of my lawn full of dandelions and clover. now I just have nice thick grass. I did obviously over seed as well.

I spread it after 10pm so no one walking their dogs and I know bunch of people in my area that use it as the recommendation came from those with nice lawns lol

It smells for about 20-30 minutes and then its clear.

I don't know of anyone who has actually had a "knock on the door". Also, most consumer security cameras don't have the resolution in order to read the label of a product you are spraying on the lawn so the chances of that happening are extremely low.

No one knocks, but one should be respectful if you have neighbours with dogs.

I do mine after 10pm whenever I do to minimize any exposure as it needs like 2 hours to be safe.

KillEx is legal in many provinces and US states. the concentration is low. Plus if you call one of those grass people, they too spray the same stuff but just charge you for it and put a nice label on your lawn lol

Doesn't work well. Works on broadleaf only (which to be fair is also true of Killex), so grassy weeds are generally not impacted. It's also a contact spray that will damage or kill leaves that are touched but won't kill roots, so works best against annuals or really immature perennials, and often takes repeat spraying to exhaust root reserves (in some cases it never will). It will however knock back a lot of little broadleaf weeds and it isn't useless. It also helps darken grass briefly, which can be nice visually. I do wonder if the concentration in this mix is a bit wussy as well.

Doesn't work. Killex (2,4-d) does, but should be necessary only for one-time weed cleanup if you maintain the lawn properly in subsequent years.

2,4-d weed killers have a very distinctive smell which will be apparent to any neighbour who recognizes it. However the smell is gone withinin a day, and the herbicide itself breaks down in the soil within a few days, so there's no lingering effect. Considering that 2,4-d herbicides are allowed and used on golf courses and public land even in provinces that still have an outdated ban like Ontario, it's not likely to be a problem.

Care to share a link for that?

I'm assuming you bought in the US?
