[Home Depot] socket wrench set 3/8 (18 pieces) @ $19.98 & 1/4 (20 pieces) @ $22.47

I was looking for some hardware tools and came across these two wrench sets. Compared to others, these prices seemed to be pretty good.
Not sure if there're better deals out there.

1/4 is very small and can be used towards very limited areas.
While 3/8 and 1/2 are commonly used towards cars maintenance and lots of other areas.

The price is warm, not hot imho.
If you don't have a set and need 1, then you can go for it.
Otherwise, you can wait for a better deal.

I got a 3 sets in 1 for $25 with more than 100 pieces...
PM $13/30 days, 250MB, 100Min with unlimited incoming/30d

I do agree with your deal analysis but I wouldn't discount the uses of the smaller sizes in the 1/4" set. If you're working on household appliances, hobby related and even automotive e.g. trim fasteners, battery terminals etc will all use smaller sizes. I do, however prefer nut spinners over a ratchet set for smaller screws Image

Plenty of those around and they go on sale quite often. But I don't think 1/4 inch driver is strong enough to break wheel lug nuts.

That's exactly what I use. Loosen the the lugs with a breaker bar, then spin them off with a drill and socket using that adapter.

Hand-thread the lugs on, then use the drill with the clutch set to a medium torque to tighten them -- it's nowhere near the torque that'll do any damage. Finally, use the torque wrench to torque them properly, usually ends up being 1/2 to 1 additional rotation.

I have no need of this myself, but I think the Husky sets the OP posted are great value.

I could come up with reasons for someone to buy a higher-quality set - e.g. if you want less backdrag, lower swing arc, need greater strength, want to brag to your friends...

But there's lots of good reason to settle for Husky tools too - lifetime warranty, good availability, cheap and you should be using the largest-sized ratchet for any stubborn fastener anyway (or a breaker bar).

I'd advise buyers to check the back drag in the store to make sure it's ok (or see if there's sets with less). Or, like I did with a Husky roto ratchet I bought, connect an extension to your drill, connect the ratchet and run it through a few hundred revolutions to break it in (go slow, don't want to heat it up and ruin the hardening). Yeah, you will be adding some wear and tear... but lifetime warranty!

There is a 185 piece set on sale for $75 starting tomorrow that would be a better buy overall. It's in the flyer if anyone is interested.

Yea these are just a basic set with some common head sizes. I wanted to have a try at changing my own transmission fluid so I went and sought out a set. These Husky tools are "Made in China" but the material does seem solid enough and it's good if they actually have a lifetime warranty (although from a chinese manufacture... lol)

even looking for used tools on Kijiji, these prices are kinda not bad. Seems people want waaaay too much for their used tools (but then again, maybe tools don't typically lose their value, especially well-made ones)

This is a home depot thread. Why would you look at a Canadian tire flyer for what he posted? Here is the link to what he was posting about:
