You still have the stuff? Are you around the Hamilton/Mississauga area?

Price matched at Markham and Kirkham. Didn’t even have to say anything and the cashier asked “Rona!?”

Easyyyy
Were you one of the couple in front of me who stocked up 2 boxes? :P
I went there during the weekend, easy & simple PM.

good price but this particular fluid is no good in prairie weather.
i should of taken a picture but there is literally a mountain of this at my local rona.
no one is buying it. what does work well is motomaster, simoniz and believe it or not windex's windshield washer fluid.
in the really harsher areas and in truck stops or on camp. you will often see guys mix with 99% alcohol and windshield washer fluid to prevent feeezing.
anyways my 2 cents. personally i use motomaster and the purple stuff at 7-11. when it dips to -35 to -50 that's when the alcohol mix is used along with the block heater cable.
Hmm, funny been buying this for years, or Costco stuff, and never have an issue. Bought 12 jugs this weekend, Live on the prairies as well.

Same been using this stuff for many many years both - 35 and - 40. Never had any issues even with Calgary's "polar
vortex" weather right now.

I think I found the reason why this stuff “freezes” more than the good old stuff. I used to think it because they cut corners in this cheap stuff

They aren’t allowed to use as much methanol due to evaporation/ “ volatile organic compounds” emission rules so they add ethanol (or propanol) and ethylene glycol to get the right freeze point. It's why old stuff has a distinctive smell when sprayed, but new stuff doesn't

The methanol flashes off when spayed and the ethylene glycol starts to gel at really cold temps so it smears on the glass. Also the washer nozzles appears to be blocked.

The answer is to keep spraying the fluid to get more methanol content onto the glass . Similarly, occasionally spray in cold weather to keep the nozzles clear

"A –35 C washer fluid will have not less than 38 per cent methanol," wrote Saratlic. "A 50 per cent methanol mixture freezes at –50 C."
Does it mean I can add about ~450 mL of methnaol to bring it to 50% ratio and be better?

Sorry for the dumb question but how do you price match?
By showing them the Rona flyer either print or on APP.

Good call on ur part. But for lots of us Rona is off our way as Rona locations are way more rare than HD. Got mine on my way from work. Got 8, wont be buying washer fluid for the next two year :).

I think that assumes what’s in the blue stuff is only methanol and water. There’s also ethanol and ethylene glycol in there as well so there could be a much lower amount of methanol

450ml is a good number to start with.

I played around with adding 750 ml , and it works but appears to be on the high side.

The other option (in the article) suggested spraying a lot more stock fluid works (ie get a lot more methanol mixture onto the glass to account for losses due to evaporation)
