For those wondering what the differences are, deck screws are weather resistant and better designed to avoid splitting wood when you're screwing things together tight. I tend to use them over wood screws on the vast majority of things I build now (never built a deck!). Brown blends in nicely with stained wood without having to dowel/plug/patch holes too

Can anyone recommend a good 'assorted' pack of good weather resistant wood screws? I would like to get a few to have around the house for miscellaneous projects and stuff.

Depending how crazy you want to go and what you're doing 1.5" and 2.5" in both #8 and #10 would probably cover most of your bases, if you only wanted to get 2 packs, I'd do 1.5" #8 and 2.5" #10, you avoid the common "just too long" situation with those lengths most of the time where the point is poking out the back side, and get a bit of leeway to drive the screw too deep.

2.5" will join two 2x4 the thin way without poking out the back.
1.5" for joining thin stuff (plywood or whatever) to a 2x4 the thin way without poking out the back.

Thanks OP. I tried to find #10 X 3", but my store only had #10 X 3 1/2".

Timely post. I need some to put up Pressure treated fence boards.

Any difference between the brown and green deck screws other than colour?

The sale is still on. Just picked up a couple of jars of 2" and 3" at Pat's Home Hardware on Coxwell.
