It's in the Home Hardware flyer - Until Wednesday July 14th.

That guy's teardown video makes me want to buy this unit. Grinning Face

Unfortunately, I have only side sliding windows, so this can't work for me. I wish Midea or some other company would make "C-shaped" AC units for my window types. The existing technology today, window and portable units, just seem so outdated when you look at something like that Midea unit.

I ordered this a week ago and i'm still waiting for it to be delivered to the store for pickup. I don't know if it's just me but home hardware's online shopping experience seems to be a bit under developed.

If they made a C shape how would that work with a thin vertical section supporting the weight that is now off balance to the side?

Seriously. Does this guy's voice just annoy the living hell out of you? And all his gripe is about the foam? Seriously, Plenty of things can be done to make it look right. And bugs getting in? Plenty of bugs can get in thru other ways other than the a/c unit gaps.

No, I had no problem with his voice. Too busy paying attention to the content of the video. I think what is likely true about his video is that one needs to be pretty handy and have some level of skill to make this installation look professional.

I disagree.
While it would be easier to lift with 2 people, I installed it myself. Wasn't that difficult but I did try to take my time.

To make it look super professional, buy some white duct tape to match your white window frame/sash/white foam.

And I too found his voice annoying. There are probably more in-depth reviews than his too.

I am sure they can figure out how to counter the balance. Some sort of brace could work.
Hopefully they are working on this type of design.
I am lucky my bedroom had a pull down window. This AC unit is true to its build. Pushing real cold air, extremely quiet, the compressor variable speeds truly slow down and speed up. Unlike the portables and other $300 window ac, that have only on and off for the compressor and uses the fan speed to regulate.
Also, Midea is a monster in China. In China home owners trust this brand.
As well below complaint video. Yes. You wont get perfect seal. However, you can be creative to make an almost perfect seal.
Big thumbs up for this unit and design.

Back in the 60's thru early 80s the did make these for sliding windows. I had one, made by Heat Controller in Michigan. It could be mounted in sliders and up/down windows. THey sold them under various brand names including department stores like Eatons etc. Unlike the Midea which is joined right across the bottom , the Heat Controller was only joined to the outside portion by a steel conduit about 4 x2 incht on the bottom right corner. THey were a great unit, it's a shame someone isn't making them now.

Had to look that up. Very cool (no pun intended). Basically the same thing as the Midea, though 60s technology and efficiency.

Clicked just to see what U shaped A/C was.

I'd still rather have a portable unit vs a window unit...because it's portable and easier to install.

Looked at that one and it gets bad reviews /unreliable for some reason. They have it on wayfair.ca

Would also be bad in a household with toddlers who like to push buttons (ask me how I know)! Haha

Some report that water leaks inside on the floor because of that design. The condensate from the evaporator pools in the bottom front part and has to be evacuated "uphill" (bad idea).

I'm definitely getting one of those, but I'll get 12000... the max the better for my 1000sqft apartment. I would probably need two, but I have only one spot where this could be installed: my balcony door :) that's going to be a little more challenging but my strata prohibits split AC :(

I'd vote for C-shape for casement windows... worst window design ever

Anyone got an AC solution for side-swinging windows? I've just been removing the windows and mounting regular units with plywood or plexi, but it's not fast or good.

i have got a side swinging casement window that i am going to replace with a single hung and put the midea u air conditioner in.. $500 for window, $500 for AC. more than i wanted to spend but the mini split quotes I am getting are $5-10k and the portable isn't cutting it.
