If I only need it for an hour or so, will it last for days up to 12 hours total? Never had this before but heard good things.

Turns on and off, how it works is a butane cartridge that heats up the pad which has this distinct scent that mosquitoes don't like but very faint smelling to humans.

Like most of these products, the unit is cheap but the refills are not. HOWEVER depending how much you hate mosquitoes, it's totally worth it to enjoy the outdoors.

Buy permetrin pads in EBay. For butane versions, watch YouTube videos on how to refill the cartridges. They are easy to do and way cheaper.

I wish the prices for refills were lower. I've been watching these for like 10 years and I just can't justify the refill price vs spraying on some sweet, sweet DEET.

The repellent pad will last for about 12 hours of usage before the repellant is burned off. It's blue and will turn white as it gets used up. When it's used up, you just slide in another pad.

So yes you could get 12 individual hours out of the pad, but you'll probably need to recharge the battery in between.

This is the battery version not the butane version. I think the battery will last up to about 5-6 hours on a charge.

Rechargeable should be cheaper to maintain compared to butane, correct?

Be warned, this rechargeable one doesn't use pad, but instead liquid one. I did not find any cheaper replacement or any liquid (exactly the same one) to refill the existing one. Right now in the wood with one at one feet from me and still lot of bugs around me. I think the butane version with pads work better from what I've seen, you can refill it cheaper using small mod and you can buy way cheaper pads from aliexpress
Edit : right now and until there is cheaper refill available, I think the butane one with pad are way cheaper to maintain but you'll have to deal with refilling butane instead of just recharging. I kind of regret that I bought the rechargeable one for 70$ + 30$ refill instead of butane one directly

I didn't notice it! Rechargeable definitely worth it over having to buy butane cartridges!

Oh that sucks! I was wondering why they would lose out on those super expensive butane refills, now this makes more sense.

Good way to combat the cheap pads from "the interwebs" by replacing it with a liquid cart

So, this is better than the regular ones in that you don't need to use butane, so that could be a big savings.

But, it uses a cartridge with liquid for the chemical repellant instead of the pads used in the old model.

So the question is, how does the price of the chemical cartridge refills compare with the price of the butane + pads?

I have this unit and the MR450 with pads. I think this unit works better.

The exactly same chemical used in the original liquid refill are not available everywhere (been searched for the last few days already) . There is alternative but they are not suppose to be vaporized like the original one

Interesting... Didn't know that the others weren't supposed to be vaporized as well. Do you mind sharing what the "alternative" is? I assume it's just pesticide with permethrin in it?
