[Home Hardware] THERMACELL Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller $26.97 or $24.27 with PM

Great deal if you want a Thermacell Patio Shield Repeller. Available in red, green or blue based on Home Hardware ad. Price match at Home Depot and you get it for $24.27 instead of $26.97 from Home Hardware.

Fyi, not sure if this is an error in Home Hardware ad as it it still showing $35.99 on their website but I was able to Price Match at Home Depot by showing the online ad.

What’s the science behind this? How does it work?

It's a fairly common pesticide called allethrin. Same stuff you would find in a mosquito coil. The method of dispersal/delivery is what's unique here.

Couple things to note: Allethrin works against a lot of insects, some beneficial. If you have cats, allethrin isn't necessarily a good thing to have around either.

I've not used the patio version of this... but I have used the portable version at camp, and it seems to work.

I picked up the backpacker version of this last weekend for a camping trip. Definitely worked in a moderately buggy area. I'll take it on every trip now...

It takes a while sometimes before the Web site matches the specials in the flyer. The flyer started today...

fyi this uses butane fuel and is a bit pricey - it's 9 dollars for a butane/mosquito pad pack that works for 12 hours or 30 dollars for a pack that works for 48 hours

it also generates a garbage butane cell every 12 hours because it's non refillable

they do have a newer rechargeable version which cuts down the garbage generation but you have to be able to charge it

Boom and Bust Calgar…
Bought one for camping, it actually works.

Used Piactive when I was hiking, that stuff also works a treat.

Who told you the butane is non refillable? Google is your friend here...

Not officially refillable, I mean. I know about the 300 or so youtube videos on the subject

But overall, it is a great product. I took the lantern version - which is on rollback for $30 https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/thermacell ... 0201646702 - camping with my friends and we setup just one and it worked really well.

The lantern looks good on the patio too as you can put 3 AA batteries and use it as outdoor lighting.

Did they actually call the store to verify stock? That's odd.

This is a good point. I have the table\lantern version of this and it *seems* to work if there is absolutely no wind but, TBH, I often just set up a couple of dollar-store mosquito coils and save myself the butane\pad cost ( I have hacked the cylinders so they are refillable and bought the pads on EBay, much cheaper than the official ones). Two coils work as well or better than one of these and are cheaper and easier to use in a stationary setting.

Thanks ordered the lantern instead.

During my chat with HD, they went to HomeHardware website, put in my postal code and it is temporally out of stock so they wont PM me.

Is it out of stock in all 3 colours at Home Hardware near you? If you don't care about the colour you could price match the green or blue ones from the links below if they are in stock near you. Home Depot carries all three colours.

The link above is the red one from Home Hardware. The links below are for the Green and Blue ones from Home Hardware.

How bulky of this item, is it portable enough to carry around for jogging. My neighbor's area seem to have a lot of flies and insect around, always swam me when I jog by.

Thanks in advance

I think it is just my luck (and my postal address) that they are all out of stock. Thanks for links though..

Would be pointless for jogging, it requires the chemical to be dispersed around you.

If you're running forward it will be 0.001% effective.

Even the smallest version is quite bulky, not good for running with.
