Home Reno

Hi, I've searched through the threads and not sure if I have a clear answer on this question, thanks in advance for your help!

I am going to be making a purchase around $70,000 CAD at a Toronto bath/tile store in the near future. Would be very grateful if you could suggest the best way to maximize the points on this purchase?

Edit: Store: https://www.cesarioandco.com/

Thank you.

Your biggest challenge will be getting a high enough credit limit to pull it off, unless you plan on carrying it out in many transactions at different times.
If they take Amex, I would suggest SimplyCash Preferred for 2% back on everything.
Not sure if there are any Visa or MasterCards anymore that give straight 2% back with no cap.

MBNA Rewards World Elite, 2% on everything if redeemed on travel.
That said, breaking your purchase down into multiple chunks, and then applying for multiple cards for the welcome bonus and using them on each chunk will get you the best return.

Tangerine world MasterCard and choose home reno as one of the three categories which give you 2% cashback redeemed monthly, and it's free.

Good idea, but whether the OP’s merchant will have its MCC configured to fall under Tangerine’s category is a bit of a crap shoot.

Could always try a small test purchase first, but of course that's time consuming.

Visa supplier locator says BUILDING/ ELECTRICAL/ PLUMBING/ HEATING - 1740.
Most likely the MCC would be the same on the Mastercard network.
From the Tangerine MC rewards T&Cs it doesn't look like that would qualify for home improvement or furniture.

Do you prefer travel points or cash-like points?

If you prefer travel points, get CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege for 75K Aeroplan, and earn 1.25x+ for daily spending (1.5x on groceries, dining, gas, travel, daily transit).

If you prefer cash-like points (fixed value), get MBNA Rewards World Elite MC for 30K ($300) welcome bonus, and earn 2% on everything with no limit.
📱 Telus: $30/25GB Peace of Mind Plan + 1000 International minutes
🎁 Moola: 25% bonus on everyday essentials (Walmart, Esso and Uber Eats)
💳 Credit card combo (2.5 - 10% return): AmEx + Scotiabank + CIBC

Thank you everyone for the replies. Apologies on the late response, for some reason the alerts didn't pop up.

If people use reply, instead of reply with quote like I did here, then you won't get alert because the system doesn't know which post a person is replying to. I thought most people would know that.
