Home Theatre (Receiver & Speaker) suggestion needed.

Hello everyone!!

I am looking to purchase a Home Theatre (Receiver & Speaker) to connect to the TV. The Receiver, I want one with built in Bluetooth as i'll mainly use it for music following by Gaming then Blue-Ray player. For Speakers I am looking maybe 2 [front left & right] and 1 Subwoofer for now. My house is about 1,500 sq.f and not looking to "blast" my music loud ... just to listen and enjoy music and improve my movie watching sounds rather than TV speaker.

I don't need something "amazing" or something "low budget" ... something decent ... I know "decent" varies on a person but something $600 - $1,000 in all for now.

So I was wondering if is it better to buy as a "package" of receiver, speaker & subwoofer or I should buy each separately (Receiver alone then speaker as another purchase)?

What is a good brand for receiver and speaker?

Receiver - Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon or Pioneer? Speakers I am not sure what's good ... Polk? Sony? Kilpsch?

Also, if any suggestion or info I missed to ask, please give me suggestion as this is my first time buying a home theatre setup for sounds.

Thank You

First, you need to decide what you want long-term. 5.1? 7.1? Atmos? IMO, packages aren't really worth it.

First, choose a receiver with the features you want. Then, a solid pair of fronts that have available matching centers and surrounds, for future expansion.

With your budget, you'll have to compromise on the sub. I have this one, which is quite good for the money, IMO.

Thank you!! for your helping!!

Did some thinking and a little bit of browsing of what you said. I am settling for 5.1 as I am not an Audio person really and don't need to go crazy with 7 speakers (7.1).

With Atmos, I see roughly ~$50 -$100 more. For long term [10 years +] is it worth getting Atmos? I am going to assume I will upgrade my speakers on the long run in the 10 years+ of ownership I'll be having it. Also in future, if I end up moving to a bigger house, most likely ill add in 2 more speakers in the rear.

Depends on where you get your programming. TV and streamed content are generally 5.1 at best. Most 7.1 is only found with BD of newer releases and Atmos only in the last few years. I don't think I have heard the Atmos work except for the Win 10 Atmos demo. You might well UG your receiver by the time you move to a bigger place.

I'd start with a pair of mains + center. Sub-woofer is optional if the sides are good enough. I have Polk towers for mine (then again, I do have two subs) n a 7.2 system, but most of my content is stereo.

I'm not an audiophile either. I have a Denon AVR-X1500H and the Andrew Jones Pioneer 5.1 speakers, with the exception that the sub is the one I previously mentioned. To me, unless you have the perfect room, the perfect seating position and all your speaker wire was pulled while the house was being built, anything more sophisticated than 5.1 is too troublesome and expensive.

Now, were I a millionaire, I'd have a professionally-designed theatre room with a 146" TV and the most sophisticated audio available. :D

Check these out. I have the S606HCS along with a 10" sub and they sound great. At this price, the 807 is an absolute steal

You don't need to be a millionaire for that.... Ask me how I know.

Well, if you can spend several hundred thousand dollars on home entertainment without being a millionaire, kudos to you.;)

Repooc didn't spend hundred thousands on his home theater build, but it does take patience, planning and time, and obviously a lot of passion to do what he did (Amazing build BTW Repooc!)

I would say passion is the ingredient that you need to put together a home theater where it really feels like a theater at home. Anything else is just a big TV that plays movies lol

My setup is in the sunken living room with a cathedral ceiling. Room measures 16' x 11' (176 square feet) with the ceiling topping out at 11-1/2'.

I have a 55" mounted above the fireplace (there was a cutout above the fireplace done by the builder). I had placed a piece of 3/4" thick plywood mounted around the cutout so that the TV mount would be able to be secured.

Installed a shelf inside the cutout for the powerbar and shelving of my gaming systems.

On top of the fireplace (which is NOT used) I have my Denon AVRS-740H receiver, with an unlocked Android Box (streaming tons of overseas channels), Rogers NextBox 3.0 PVR, and a Desktop (which I use to watch my collection of Movies and music and youtube).

All devices are hardwired via CAT6 cables through the Asus Gigabit Switch (which is connected via CAT6 that I had ran into the basement and back up to the D-Link Gigabit Router in the room).

The Centre Channel is the Polk Audio S35.

The FR & FL are a pair of Jamo Classic 10 Towers pumping out 280W.

The RR & RL are a pair of Klipsch R51M.

The FHR & FHL are a pair of Klipsch R14M.

The Subwoofer is located behind the L-shaped couch behind the railing ... Polk Audio HTS10.

All 14 gauge cables have been ran from the receiver down the sides of the fireplace into the basement and then back up in the corners of the room. All hidden.

TOTAL SPENT ... $1850 .... didn't include the following:
- the 55" Vizio SmartTV
- the Jamos (don't remember how much as it was from the 1990s)
- the gaming systems

*** Was streaming LIVE baseball from Taiwan this morning on ELTA via the Android Box ***

Unfortunately it's for live sports. Yes, they are currently not playing. But for NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL.

My neighbour has the IgniteTV and the cellphones get notifications of plays and scores before it happens on the TV screen.

My other neighbour has it streaming through VPN and the same thing happens with phones getting the plays and scores before it shows on the screen.

With cable, my phone goes off a split second after the play is shown on my TV screen.

Until they can do streaming (which IgniteTV is) that does not have a lag, I will continue to keep cable.

I agree it is stupid and a waste of money, but a true sportsfan will not stream.

Also, the Android box that I have does not have NHL or NFL on it. So I need to find a way to see how I can get them without paying money. I get well over 1000 channels but no hockey or football. It does have snooker when they are playing.

If you're going to be watching movies, absolutely do not compromise on the sub. That's the most important piece to a movie setup, followed by the centre channel. Compromise L/R or receiver.

OP said "i'll mainly use it for music following by Gaming then Blue-Ray player", hence his fronts are more important. Plus, his budget does not allow more than a couple hundred for a sub, hence my recommendation.

I'm looking for a sub also, mostly movie, the best value would be the Dayton SUB-1200 from Solen isn't?
Then Bic F12, PL200 II and it jumps to an SVS lol

It's well reviewed.

There's a KEF 8" at Visions for $200 but I found zero reviews for it.

I found the Dayton was shaking my house until I put some foam under it to isolate it. :)

Gibbys or Amazon usually have best prices.
