[Honda Civic Question] Are engine flush and coolant flush the same thing?

I did engine flush last year. Canadian Tire recommended me to do coolant flush earlier this year which I declined.

Are engine flush and coolant flush the same thing? Should I do coolant flush too?

They are not the same thing.

Honda's maintenance minder will tell you went to replace engine coolant

Honda Maintenance Schedule Calculator

Maintenance Schedule Download for Your Honda Vehicle
https://www.honda.ca/en/service-parts/m ... -schedules

Engine flush is generally not recommended unless the engine oil had not need changed in a long time and/or is like sludge

With regular oil change you do not need engine flush

Which year Civic do you have? How many kms?

I own a 2012 Civic sedan with over 155,000 kms. I bought it new and stick to the maintenance schedule provided by Honda.

So far, I have been to Mr. Lube, Canadian Tire, and Honda (dealer).

Is there a better option than these 3?

"No, an engine flush and a coolant flush are not the same thing; they target different parts of your vehicle and serve different purposes.

**Engine Flush:**
- **Purpose:** To clean the engine internals.
- **Process:** A chemical cleaner is added to the engine oil. The engine is then run for a short period to allow the cleaner to dissolve sludge, deposits, and other contaminants. Afterward, the old oil and filter are changed.
- **Benefits:** Helps to remove buildup that can affect engine performance and longevity. It can be particularly useful for older engines or those that have been poorly maintained.

**Coolant Flush:**
- **Purpose:** To clean and refresh the cooling system.
- **Process:** The old coolant (antifreeze) is drained from the radiator and engine, and a flushing solution is used to clean the cooling system. After flushing, new coolant is added.
- **Benefits:** Removes rust, scale, and other contaminants from the cooling system, improving heat transfer and preventing overheating. It also ensures that the coolant mixture is fresh and at the correct concentration.

Both processes are important for vehicle maintenance, but they address different systems in your car. Regularly performing both can help keep your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently."

Never go to any chains, especially the three you mentioned.
Their mechanics are salesmen that must meet sales quotas.

Find yourself an independent mechanic in an industrial part of your area.

If you have maintained your car in accordance with the maintenance minder, i see no reason for an engine flush unless there're abnormalities.

I fell for it with my first purchase.

Mr. Lube.

I have 2017 CivicX and have 77k. I got a coolant flush done at Honda.
You got to be a new type of stupid, to do me wrong, not apologize, think that if you let time go by, you can hit me up like you still have access to me.

Engine flush = scam. Regular oil + filter change intervals is all you need. Never felt the need to seafoam or any other oil additives.

Coolant flush = check your owners manual for an interval. I would also only do this at the dealership, or a shop that specializes in your brand, that uses OEM coolant. Just because a coolant is the same colour as the coolant in your car, doesn't make it compatible (especially CT's "OEM" brand). Also, a flush isn't necessary, a rad drain and refill is enough. Just need to refresh the additives, don't need to replace every last drop. Also some manufacturers have a factory fill good for 10 years, then drain+fill every 5 years after that for this reason.

The fact that CT is suggesting it means it's 99% a scam.

I see in your other post you have a 10th gen 2016 Civic. Maintence Minder #5 will pop up telling you to change coolant. According to a forum post on civicx, it will pop up at 175k KM then every 80k km after that.
